I Was in Maryland, by Accident

Actually, I was in Maryland on purpose, visiting my cousins who live there, but on the way, I drove through the small town of Accident. Yes, there is a town named Accident, in western Maryland. Many small towns in the United States have funny names, like Big Ugly, West Virginia and Yeehaw Junction, Florida.
There's a small town in West Virginia named Shock which I have been to, so I guess you could say I was in Shock, but I'm okay. Being in Accident didn't do any damage, either, but I got these funny pictures. Perhaps the Accident car wash does body work, too?
And here is the Accident Laundromat, for those "little oops-es" on the sheets...

I love some of these names. There was a big article last year about a town called Dull in Scotland which twinned with the town of Boring in Oregon. There is also a whole meme industry around taking photographs of signposts of towns and villages with amusing names.

Nice photo of that Laundromat. Reminds me of the good old days in America.

That's so cute! I have often seen goofy things I wanted to photograph. It's a lot easier to do that these days, now that everyone's phone comes with a camera!

I wonder if that came from the Civil War?

It's really very charming--the laundromat and the car wash are actually opposite ends of the same building, which is even funnier!

There was a float in the Autumn Glory parade in Oakland, Maryland that feature the Accident Band. ("We didn't really mean to be a band; it just kind of happened.")

About twenty years ago when I was living in Minnesota, I was getting ready to drive out to my cousin's place in Michigan. She was giving me directions on the phone, and then in the middle of it, she started doing an imitation of Meg Ryan in "When Harry Met Sally"....uh, the fake orgasm part. I asked her if she was entertaining any...ahem..."company" at the moment, and she said no, that was the part of the trip where I would not be far from Climax, Michigan, LOL.

Well, you know, we're not very far from Climax, NC, either--it's only about 40 minutes down 220 South, on the way to Pittsboro.
