Progress Report on Life and Life Online

As I've mentioned before, I've been over-extended lately. More and more has to be done offline, and the time has to come from somewhere. That somewhere appears to be online time. I have to get tough with myself and see if I can be a disciplined blogger or if I'm just playing around with my writing activities.

First, here's what's happening in the real world. I get my first physical therapy evaluation for my knee problem on Tuesday. That probably will be the beginning of one or more appointments every week interrupting the middle of the day. I also anticipate having to get more dental work after they look at my teeth during the cleaning the following Tuesday. I'm also having a problem with unexplained pain in my left foot – the one I had half a toe joint replaced in last April. My instep is turning in. I need to find a solution. Between that and my bum knee, I can no longer go for walks. I also get the occasional order that sends me home to process it. That is unpredictable.

As all residents of the USA know, taxes are due on April 15. Ours are complex. We haven't started working on them yet. I don't even have the software yet. When we start working on them, everything else comes to a stop around here.

As far as online activities go, I have to get serious about seeing where I spent my time and how it helps me professionally or in making money. I'm cutting down on all but one Twitter account for the time being until I can see what I should be doing with those accounts. I have no real return on my Buffer tweets and I'm glad I didn't go for a paid plan. Hootsuite works better for me and most clicks don't come from Twitter. They come from Facebook groups, tsu, and Google Plus.

Right now I have three commitments online I'm trying to keep up with. First is my own Daily Photo Blog. I have to post once a day to stay featured in the network. Next is my weekly commitment to “Review This,” a cooperative blog started by a former Giant Squid. All of the contributors also used to be Giant Squids. I notice this is not the only such blog that helps homeless former Squids find homes for their lenses that don't fit anywhere else.

The third challenge is personal to myself. I started the 365 day challenge for 2015 on Flickr. So far I've only posted up to February 14, although I have all the photos taken. It's just a matter of getting them uploaded to the album. I have caught up with taking at least one photo a day.

Goals are to finish the taxes, keep to my online commitments, and reevaluate the time spent on writing sites. It appears I might make $6.00 on my two sites combined this month if things continue as they have until now through the end of March. I will remove hubs that should do better elsewhere. I will try to post to each secondary blog each week or two. I will try to post to the newer content sites I have joined once a week until I have enough work up to see how I'm doing. Or maybe not.

I will stay active on . It earns more for me for in both money and publicity than my blogs do right now, and some days, especially days I don't post here, more than Persona Paper. Most of all, I find tsu relaxing and it's fun. I do, however, spend more time than I should there.

Speaking of time, it's time for me to go to bed, so I'll say goodnight now.

I am intrigued. I could not make tsu work. Now I may give it another try. Lol write us an article saying how you do it! It is hard to know where to out our time these days.

It looks like you have an active online life. I can only work online on my spare time so I just focus on one site. For now, it is PP.

CoralLevang wrote on March 23, 2015, 3:56 AM

Sleep well, dear Barb. It sounds like you are going to have a busy few weeks.

arthurchappell wrote on March 23, 2015, 4:34 AM

sounds like you have an enormous amount of activity going on both online and off - clearly something has to give - hope it isn't this site though

Wow that's a lot of hard work in there, plus some medication, I think traveling back in forth will cost you a lot of time... I hope you get to finish your taxes computation on time, because I know how painful it is when we can't finish it or submit it on the due date. God bless and have a great day... stay healthy and always don't over use your body from a lot of work, take a time to rest. God bless the works of your hands on all of your working online and other stuff... Maybe that is why I can't see you often here, and you don't have any photo here yet. God bless.

Wow, you sound busy, but you want to take some time for yourself, I know that is something I need to schedule in my life.

wolfgirl569 wrote on March 23, 2015, 9:38 AM

You are very busy, I have never been able to figure out tsu maybe you could explain more to us here

You are such a dynamo, Barb. I'm sorry to hear some physical concerns are way-laying you for what I hope is a temporary period. Your determination and drive both personally and professionally are an ongoing inspiration to me and doubtless many others. I'm hoping for positive outcomes for your physical concerns and your writing efforts.

As soon as I have time I'll make a post on that. Meanwhile, I don't want to leave anyone the impression that I'm making more at tsu than I might by spending as much time here everyday posting. But I do enjoy my time there a lot as I get to know people better and look forward to seeing them. As with everything, the more you put in, the more you get out. Some of what I get is satisfaction and interaction with people I would not know otherwise. Some of what I get are more views for my work elsewhere. And some of my reward is monetary.

Sometimes it's better to concentrate on one site at a time until you have a body of work there. I still don't like putting all my eggs in one basket, though.

BarbRad wrote on March 23, 2015, 5:13 PM

Thank you. I did sleep well. And I will be busy.

BarbRad wrote on March 23, 2015, 5:14 PM

I'm slowing down, not leaving. I just don't want the pressure of feeling I must post every day here.

BarbRad wrote on March 23, 2015, 5:17 PM

The travel time does cut into my time, but I usually make use of it for some other errand or a photo-shoot while I'm out. Thank you for your blessing spirit. I can feel it. Not sure what you mean about the photo. I can see my avatar here, and I can also see a photo in the post.

BarbRad wrote on March 23, 2015, 5:18 PM

Every now and then I crash with a book to read and I read it straight through.

BarbRad wrote on March 23, 2015, 5:18 PM

I'll keep that in mind for a future post.

BarbRad wrote on March 23, 2015, 5:21 PM

Thanks, Debbi. I miss you on tsu. Am I just not seeing you? It can be a fun and relaxing place

OldRoadsOnceTraveled wrote on March 23, 2015, 7:55 PM

I hope your foot and knee issues are better soon. I know how much you love your walks. And I don't even want to think about taxes and dental issues! I have way too many things going on in my life, too, both online and off.

I need to get back to Tsu, just as I need to do more here. I haven't had a thing to say in recent weeks, so even commenting has seemed a shallow effort for me. I miss you and so many others. Hoping to be plodding along again soon. : )

paigea wrote on March 23, 2015, 11:24 PM

Oh my, I couldn't keep up with all of that. Take care and sleep well.

BarbRad wrote on March 24, 2015, 12:28 PM

I'd have a lot less issues if I had a lot less government in my life trying to take away our water rights, and demanding I keep tons of paper to document my tax returns. As for the dentist? No comment. Hope you are able to deal with whatever is going on with you.

OldRoadsOnceTraveled wrote on March 24, 2015, 9:08 PM

Nothing drastic other than self-employment tax and some repairs. Mostly too many "this and that".

RonElFran wrote on March 24, 2015, 11:08 PM

They say misery loves company. That's why I'm glad to see that you haven't started your taxes yet. I know it's selfish of me, but it's really great to know I'm not the only one.
