Heavy Rainfall Took Me Completely by Surprise

It happens more and more frequently : although I live in an area where the climate is supposed to be temperate and extreme weather phenomena shouldn’t be frequent, the reality of the last few years proves the opposite: even in such areas nature can get mad in a few seconds and offer us some unpleasant surprises.

A few months ago, on a relatively calm Saturday evening, I was minding my small online affairs when I looked out of the window and I realized that it was soon going to rain. Therefore I decided to abandon my online activities for a quarter of an hour and get out for some small shopping. Just as I left my block of flats the storm began with a completely unexpected intensity for me. The rain was so dense and heavy that the fact that I had an umbrella with me was almost of no use. Therefore I crossed the street running and I took shelter in the staircase of the building nearby along with other people who were taken by surprise by the sudden and unexpected rage coming from the sky.

I spent the next half an hour looking at the heavy rain and wandering what it would have been like to be caught by such an angry storm somewhere in an open field, with no possibility of finding shelter immediately. Eventually the storm started to diminish in intensity and I was able to get out and do my shopping.

Anyway, once again I realized that temperate is an obsolete word when describing the climate in my country. I wouldn’t be surprised if even more extreme events, such as tornadoes, took place in an area where they aren’t supposed to happen. As man’s reckless actions continue to destroy the environment and global warming reaches alarming level, such extreme weather displays should no longer surprise us, regardless of where they occur.

I think you are right. Weather patterns are changing quite a lot and I believe much of it is due to man's impact.

I once went to the city on foot when there was a completely cloudless sky. I had coffee with a friend and then went home. After a few minutes walk, it suddenly started raining (the sky got bad a few minutes earlier). I was soaking wet when I came home. I ran for only about 5 minutes. These things happen more and more where I live, too!

Weather does seem to be changing every where anymore. But if you look at history it has done so in the past in many places before also

In our place, it is raining but I do not long it takes. Based on the weather company, we have low pressure area.

I don't read any news about it... I just pray, because it really scare me and it stop me from where I am and thinking about my family, and thinking about those people who is under those unfortunate events. Yesterday even though it is summer a rain occurs, and I don't know if the storm really hit our provinces.

I woke up in a dreams I don't know if it is a real dream, I heard that the grain did not grow on its fullest because of drought. I don't know what t think. I think the God in heaven is the only solution but I don't think people pray that often, and I don't think God is please with us that much to hear our prayers... because we are not that blameless people.

I think you would enjoy the rain better if you just stay home, make a cup of coffee, and carry on with your online activities.

Man is certainly to blame for these extreme weather manifestations, and I'm afraid things will get worse and worse from this point of view.

This experience you have proves that such weird sudden changes in weather can happen anywhere on our planet, annd that's truly worrying!

SebastianOnciu wrote on March 24, 2015, 1:47 PM

Yes, but in the past there wasn't so much damage caused to the cilmate by man's reckless actions, that is why I think such unexpected changes should really represent an alarm signal for all of us.

When I got out I didn't expect such a heavy storm to begin all of a sudden, if I had anticipated what would happen I would have definitely stayed inside!
