So I Don't Seem Like a Karate Teacher, Huh?

Okay, twotruthsonelie players, it's time for the second reveal!
In the "Jobs" category of my original post, I stated the following:
1. I was a snake handler
2. I taught karate
3. I was a volunteer firefighter
and while one of those statements was absolute crap, the other two were absolutely true, if difficult to believe.
Apparently the snake handler thing was less difficult to believe, which is fine, because I did do that. When I was in college, I volunteered at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, and my job was to work in the Outside-In, an area in the Academy in which visitors could interact with live animals, with the assistance of a docent. That docent was me. In addition to holding a ball python for people to pet, I also showed a glass lizard, giant hissing cockroaches, a tarantula, mice, and a bunny rabbit. I preferred handling the snake, lizard and tarantula, because the rodents tended to nip. They were much scarier than the spider and the reptiles!
Another thing I did in college was teach karate, even though several people guessed that I was bluffing about that one. I started studying ryu kyu kenpo, an Okinawan style of karate, in my freshman year of college, and by the time I was a junior, I'd risen far enough in the ranks to be offered a position to assist in teaching the kids' classes. At first I would just be there to assist my sensei, but after a while, I taught some of the classes myself and also assisted with the adult classes. I essentially had to give up teaching after I broke my leg as I had a hard time with the jumping and spinning techniques, but it was fun while it lasted. Fortunately, one of my friends took some pictures of me in class, so there is photographic proof of my claim.
valmnz , who also guessed correctly that a donkey was the animal I had not ridden, was the only person to correctly call me out as being a non-firefighter, volunteer or otherwise. Although I have put out fires with my bare hands--not once, but TWICE--I never made a job of it. That's a story for another post, though.

Du liebe. Rather you than me with that tarantula. Really, they might be furry, but no, they still have eight legs. I have always wanted to study martial arts but I really don't have the time these days, what with writing and eBay and work too.

I would have guessed wrong with snake handler - Last night while out I thought I heard a fight in practice but couldn't see anything and nearly called the police until I realized it was coming from a karate club over a shop I was passing - they were obviously just training - I felt so dumb

I seem to have missed your first post that asked for the guesses, but it was fun reading this one.

There's still time to play, if you like. Three categories have yet to be revealed. Here's the link: http://personapaper.com/article/27131-two-truths-and-one-lie-about-me

If I had to pick up on lie for me there, that would be the first. It is extremely unusual for women to handle reptiles much more the snakes. I have no doubts you were a karate teacher. I would prefer handling kids in a sparring than a slimy python.

AliCanary To be honest I have not been following your Reveals, but I am glad to find out your are a fellow Martial Artist. I obtained the 1st Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo, although it has been years since I last wore my Dobok.

Perhaps you can make a post about the karate lessons you gave back in the day. I bet that would be awesome!!!

Well, I do have a funny story about getting kicked in the head (now, there's something nobody's ever said to you before).

Nice picture! I only took Karate for two years and then my sensei retired. I stopped going to class too at that point. I don't know how you did it with the snakes and tarantulas though. I'd have been able to handle the rodents, regardless of whether or not they nip, but I would have been in constant fear of being bitten by the snakes!
