Power cut

Yesterday I woke to power cut at 6 am .Although we were told the day before yesterday that parts of our city would get power cut the next day ,including the street I live in.However I never thought power cut came so early . It totally upset my everyday arrangement .Normally I play the violin and the erhu –a Chinese bowed instrument – for about one and a half hours in the morning and go on the Internet in the afternoon ,besides attending to my 94 year old Mum , reading and helping my wife with some household chores, etc. Now coming across power cut , so much for my going online on afternoon .And what was worse ,outside the rain was driving down hard .In the dim light of wet weather ,what could I do ? reading ? no! It was too dark to do it.Here we hardly have power cut ,so no way would I prepare candles , Family Emergency Light and what not . It seemed that playing the violin and the erhu was the only option I had left ,so I did it nearly whole afternoon . The power didn’t come back on until 8:30 pm.I had had it ,fortunately it was once in a blue moon !

I hate power cut, especially if it last till the next day, hardly able to sleep with the fan spinning

The other alternative is to sleep. I think many students and young adults will gladly sleep through the rain.

Nowaday we rely on power so much .Fortunately it is our spring time .It would be foul if it were summer .

Good idea ! however I can't sleep in the daytime ,even in summer .

You said you were told you would have a power outage, was there a reason for that? We have done enough camping over the years, that when we have a power outage, there are only a few things we can't do. Like do you remember when we got hit with remnants of a hurricane and lost power for 3-4 days? I had enough equipment to cook and clean, but what we didn't have was a camping shower. However, that didn't matter because with the camping shower, the water warms up using solar energy and we had rain, no sun. We did have biodegradable soap, used for bathing or dishes, so my daughter and I found a spot on our house where water was pouring off and in our swimsuits, we washed our hair..lol
Anyway, I am glad your lack of power was not as long and you got it back now..:-)

Anyway a power cut is not that often. China is building up on infrastructure, so next time you will not have power cut.

jiangliu1949 wrote on March 24, 2015, 2:25 AM

Yes , here the infrastruture has come a long way ,so power cut is very rare .

jiangliu1949 wrote on March 24, 2015, 3:46 AM

It was said that our power cut was due to defect elimination of circuit .I still remember it .I think your camping gear is not only for power outage but also for celebrating a festival,I am not sure if it is passover .

Oh yeah, but it is Sukkot, one of the fall feasts where we camp out...:-D Knowing where the local congregation goes camping, we might go this year. See my husband needs electricity for his sleep machine, but we don't have a camper, but where they camp out, there are cabins with electric.

jiangliu1949 wrote on March 25, 2015, 7:39 AM

Oh ,my memory fails me !I have not heard of the sleep machine before ,does it help him sleep well ?

Carmelanirel wrote on March 25, 2015, 8:29 AM

The technical term is CPAP, a machine that eliminates his snoring. His snoring was so bad, he would stop breathing, so he has to use this machine. If you look up CPAP, you can find many links that explains how it works.

jiangliu1949 wrote on March 26, 2015, 2:45 AM

Oh ,I see.I search it online.CPAP is short for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, which is good for one who snores .

At least they should notify you in advance of when and how long you have power outage .

Which city do you live in? It seems very unusual that your power was cut off all day long. Did you ever learn what caused the power outage?

jiangliu1949 wrote on April 20, 2015, 2:40 AM

I live in AnQing ,Anhui province .It was due to defect elimination as the electricians said .

Paulie wrote on April 20, 2015, 5:02 AM

I have never been to Anhui. I have only been to Beijing and that was for two months in the summer of 1998.

jiangliu1949 wrote on April 21, 2015, 1:58 AM

The place I live in isn't a metropolis but a famous historic and cultural city in China .
