Flitting Around from Site to Site and Writing Far into the Night
In case you've missed me, I have been trying to keep up with some new ventures lately. Most of them involve writing something. I am committed to one post each day for my Capturing the Paso Robles Area with My Camera blog, since to be in the Daily City Photo Blog network I must post once each day. That post is often written after midnight for posting on the same day, or just before midnight and scheduled to post at 12:30 AM. (And I earned my first penny from that blog last night.)
Next, I started posting to Seekyt to see if it would bring in some cash through affiliate sales. Now that I've posted three articles in the past eight days, I no longer need to have my posts moderated. I am trying to establish a body of work there for residual income, but that also means being social there and gaining followers and increasing visibility. All that takes time.
On Monday an unexpected opportunity came my way. I discovered that a group of former Squidoo RocketMoms I used to work with all the time had started a group blog that reviews products. It's just the kind of site I've needed for posting all my old Squidoo lenses that really don't fit the themes for any of my blogs. They had one spot left for a weekly contributor, and they let me have it. I spent most of Tuesday reworking one of my old lenses to get it posted before I went to bed. Then I did my regular blog post. I got to bed a little before 4 AM, but I got it all done.
Part of reworking the lens for the blog was checking to see that instructions I gave for customizing the product on Zazzle were still accurate after some site changes there in how products are created. So I used my instructions to create a new product. Before I had finished, I had created a clock, a mug and a deck of playing cards with the image I've used as my photo above. It's an image I like very much.
While I was very busy writing, the gardener came, and I had to escape so I went to Smart and Final to shop and use the time to also take some photos to feed my blog. I wasn't sure what to take pictures of until I started to drive past a nursery that went out of business and has been deserted for a couple of years now, at least. It looked so lonesome, I thought I'd take my photos there.
I parked and started walking around the block to try to get photos from each side. It made me sad to see what condition this once beautiful place that had been so full of life had fallen into. It still had some giant oak trees in its lot and I wanted to get their pictures. As I walked past on the final turn around the block, I saw someone inside the fence. I asked if she could let me in and she did. We got talking and found we had a lot in common, so it was a nice social break from my routine.
Back at home I found my husband driving in at the same time. I had a full camera and lots more to write, so I got right to work until we took a pizza break later on. Then I wrote until I finished my commitments for today. I'm pretty contented with all I accomplished.
The only thing that went very wrong was that I had looked at the wrong Tuesday on my calendar to check my physical therapy appointment I thought was at 1:45. (That was another appointment on the previous Tuesday.) I discovered when I checked again at 12:30, my appointment had been at 10:45. The office had also written the phone number for my reminder call wrong by a digit, so they never got the call through. I've rescheduled for next week. I really need to get there because I can hardly walk now.
I'll try to catch up with your posts here as much as possible as soon as possible. In addtion I need to do some Pinterest promotion today because the wee small hours when no one is watching is not a good time. I also have to read and comment on several other blogs. It's not the writing that's hard. It's the marketing.
Have you taken on any new projects lately?
