AliCanary's 30 Day Song Challenge My Favorite Song

I’ve finally decided to jump in and take up Alicanary ‘s 30 day Music Challenge after reading alexdg1 ‘s and arthurchappell ‘s posts for so long. Alicanary suggested I try it as a writing challenge. So not to be taken too seriously, but:

Day 1: You Favorite Song

My favorite song? Well that’s easy enough. Led Zeppelin’s “ Tangerine .” Actually, now that I hear it, it’s awfully simplistic, even if there’s a mighty fine guitar solo in it.

And speaking of guitar, there’s the immortal Jimi Hendrix. Ever listen closely to his rendition of “ The Star Spangled Banner ?” Now there was a guy who spoke guitar! As much as I admired the technical prowess of that, though, I always like his quieter stuff, like " Castles Made of Sand ."

Down the street you can hear her scream "You're a disgrace!"
As she slams the door in his drunken face,
And now he stands outside and all the neighbors start to gossip and drool.

He cries "Oh girl, you must be mad.
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?"
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green .

And “ Little Wing ,” (which has been covered by the likes of Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn):

Well, she's walking through the clouds,
With a circus mind that's running wild,
Butterflies and Zebras,
And Moonbeams and fairy tales.
That's all she ever thinks about.
Riding with the wind .”

But speaking of solos, imagine Hendrix improvising this one, as they used to back in the day, when Beethoven wrote his Violin Concerto . I realize this is a longer piece of music than most people will listen to, but it really is lovely, if you get the chance.

Oh, yeah, my favorite song…. Well, that was easy. Next!

I can see you joining the greats in the song review or writing about music club already.

I'm flattered, but that is quite beyond my capability.

My favorite Jimi Hendrix song is "Red House", but "Castles Made of Sand" is also up there for me. "Tangerine" doesn't really do it for me, but I do love Led Zeppelin's "All of My Love".

If it has to be Led Zeppelin, then I think for me" Stairway to heaven" and " All of my love" are better.

That was cool to know, but forgive me if I really do not know the song and the artist, I am not into music nowadays, and all I know is the old great music of my time... but sadly not all but a few great musics of 70s, 80s and 90s... heheh. God bless.

haha, the way you write the review is like introducing your daughter to a guy.

msiduri wrote on March 18, 2015, 8:34 AM

LOL!!! Oh, my gosh, that was funny. I can imagine the music squirming, looking at its toes and saying under its breath, "Mom, do you have to....?"

I love the bluesy-ness of "Red House." I like blues anyway. And R&B , neither of which made it into a post about my favorite song. "All of My Love" is great. So is "Out on the Tiles" and "Are You Experienced?" and "All Along the Watchtower." I think I could do a post on Jimi Hendrix and another one on Led Zeppelin alone.

I am deeply flattered you think so highly of my posts as yours reflect a lot of thought. Frankly, this one, was, well, as I warned in the beginning, not be taken seriously. This one was fun. If you've enjoyed it, then I've succeeded. Thank you!

"Stairway to Heaven" is a masterpiece and "All of My Love" is wonderful. You get no argument from me. But I always liked the little guitar solo in "Tangerine."

CalmGemini wrote on March 18, 2015, 9:04 AM

Of course Tangerine is good too.No two opinions about that.

Ah, "Little Wing". Love that song. Did you know that Sting covered it, as well? I think it's on the same album as "Englishman in New York". Let's see...going to check. Yep...yep...it's from the ...Nothing Like the Sun album. That one has "Fragile", "We'll Be Together" and "Be Still My Beating Heart", too. Great album!

It's funny that my fave Hendrix song is "All Along the Watchtower" and my fave Zep song is "All of My Love". I guess I just love it "ALL"! You totally could do band-oriented posts. I was inspired to do "extra" posts, too, like my "Creepiest Beatles Music" one.

msiduri wrote on March 18, 2015, 9:53 AM

I did not know that. Thanks for the info. I can see him covering it, though.

GemOfAGirl wrote on March 18, 2015, 10:57 AM

I like Jimi Hendrix's version of "Little Wing", but I have to admit that I love Stevie Ray Vaughan's version the best. Actually, I could listen to that one on "repeat" for a shockingly long time, lol. Nothing like a little OCD to go with a great guitar riff! emoticon :winking:

I read that. "Hide you head in the sand little girl..." Back in the day, I don't remember thinking twice about it, but if now anyone talked to my daughter (had I a daughter) like that, they might be discussing it with my fist.

msiduri wrote on March 18, 2015, 11:51 AM

I am with you, sister. Jimi, Stevie, Eric, all lined up in row.
