30-Day Song Challenge, Day 21 - A Song that You Listen to When You’re Happy

What makes me happy? Cute animals, blue sky, sunshine, cuddles from my friends, yummy food, and music! I like all kinds of music, as you know if you have been following the series. From disco to big band, R&B to heavy metal, there are very few genres that I don't appreciate. One of those genres of music that I like is reggae. My favorite reggae artist is Bob Marley, because I'm not one of those hipster people who have to find some obscure artist that no one else has ever heard of. Bob Marley is popular for a reason, and that reason is that he was AWESOME.

Even though my favorite Bob Marley song is actually "Could You Be Loved?" My favorite 'happy song' is "We're Jammin'", because it just has this lovely, laid-back vibe, and the message of the song is so positive: We've come through a lot, but it's all good, now--we're jammin', and no matter what happens, we'll always be able to get through it, and jam.

So what is jammin'? Well, for musicians, jamming is basically sitting around with your musician friends, playing together without a specific arrangement. It's not a rehearsal; you're not a band; you're just friends who can inspire and riff off of each other. I think that in this song, Bob is not speaking specifically of musicians playing, but of people just coming together and enjoying a common vibe (that probably includes music). I love Bob Marley because he has such moving and inspiring lyrics, and such an earnest and powerful singing voice. You could tell he was very emotionally engaged with what he sang. He died of cancer when he was only 36 years old, in 1981. It was a great loss, but fortunately, we still have his wonderful music to enjoy forever!

Sorry to hear that he died so young. I wish that all talented people can live to ripe old age.

Good Morning. I love the line where you say that you're not a hipster so you don't have to find some obscure unknown to enjoy. I, too, love Bob Marley.

Yeah, let's get rid of the mean ones young, and the nice ones can stick around emoticon

Good Morning to you! I know; life's too short to be a pretentious idiot. I pity people who play the "cooler than you" game--it just shows their insecurities.

I hate that he died so young, but I'm glad he gave us Ziggy. emoticon

There really is not justice.

Yep, Ziggy's a righteous dude. emoticon

Yes, it's sad when a talent is taken so soon, but fortunately he was very productive until then, so we have a large body of his work to enjoy.
