Journal 03-10-2015

Good morning or whatever part of the day it is for you. Today is Tuesday March 10, 2015. The temperature is 52.2°F and the humidity is 86% at 5:05 a.m. PST (-8 GMT). Weather Underground shows sustained winds at 0 with gusts of 0 mph. It was clear when I stuck my head out this morning. I saw the Big Dipper and an almost full moon. Weather Underground is predicting a 0% chance of precipitation and a high of 83 today.

I almost finished my taxes yesterday. Brother, what a pain in the posterior those are. At this point, it looks like I will be getting a refund, but I haven’t finished yet. We’ll see.

The business with the evidence of liability insurance is taking ever odder turns. I spoke with a supervisor at the call center with the people who I drive for who told me in no uncertain terms yesterday that they are under no obligation to furnish me with their insurance information. Now, could he count on me to complete the drives I had scheduled? I told him I would check into things and give him an answer later that day. I called the DMV in California and while I was waiting for them to get back to me (…and waiting), I called Legal Aid. A paralegal took my information but by the time it went to an attorney (I never spoke to one directly) it turned into a question of a labor dispute and they advised me to contact the bar association to see if they could give me a free consultation. When the DMV got back to me, they advised me to contact the state insurance commission who in turn advised me to contact (you guessed it) an attorney. You can’t make this stuff up.

So, I called the call center back and spoke with the same supervisor who had tried to lean on me and said simply, I would complete the drives I had scheduled dependent on receiving a copy of evidence of their commercial liability insurance. So, we’re at a standoff. We can do that for a while, I suppose, but this is not the ultimate resolution. I suppose the ultimate resolution is that withdraw my name from use as a driver. It’s not exactly like getting fired.

And in other news, I finally, finally, finally got the Examiner review up. Feels good. Until I realize I have to start working on the next one. Oh, well.

Thanks for reading. Hope you and yours are all well and happy. Hope the day brings you good things.

Writing schedule (*sigh* Stop me if you’ve heard this before):

1. Start reworking “In Deadly Combat” review for Examiner

2. Four Examiner reviews.

3. Continue reading Teresa of Avila

4. Finish beta reading “Infinite Prison”

5. Finish review S&N “The Lost World” (interesting article!) then start “Kattekoppen.”

6. Post sci-fi review

Sounds like a fruitful day in store for you. I am nearing the end of mine *yawn*

I am glad you are almost done with your taxes, and I would think that the company would have to provide the insurance on the vehicle as it is for commercial use. I hope you get it straightened out soon

I SO want taxes to be over. But in a sense, since I'm self-employed, they're never over because I have to be constantly keeping records. The company does indeed provide commercial liability insurance, but they are so far refusing to provide me with any documentation to that effect, despite having done so in the past. And, as it turns out, the documentation that I did have (which expired on Feb. 28) was no good because they cancelled the policy a year ago. So understand my concern and hesitancy in driving any more for them until this is resolved.
