Celebrities Who Did Not Age Gracefully

Just saw an ad about celebrities who were knock down drop dead gorgeous when they were young. But who are clearly not so hot now!

That is so awful to show these people in this manner. ( ) It's not like we don't all get old and unattractive, if we live. We can't all look like Michael Jackson's momma! (Honestly, Katherine Jackson looks like she gets more beautiful as she gets older.)

Remember Bettie Page??

She was a famous “iconic” pinup girl who was known for her sensually provocative photos back in the 1950s.

Many years passed and people began to wonder. What ever became of Bettie Page? It was like she disappeared. According to her official website, she passed away February 20, 2013. (Another site says she died in 2008.) However several years before that there was a documentary on television about this “notorious” woman.

It took some seeking but they finally found her. She agreed to an interview but she refused to show her face. One of her reasons given for not showing her face was that she said she wanted people to remember her as they had always seen her in her youth. It was a very interesting interview and even though her face was unseen, her gentle and humble beauty was plainly visible. She did not come across at all like a “floozie”, a “slut”, an immoral Jezebel, etc. You got the impression you were having a conversation with a healthy wholesome country girl who had been raised in the Garden of Eden before the fall of man when running around in your “birthday suit” was no big deal!

When the interview was finished, decided to respect her wishes and not see if I could find a picture of what she looked like. But since she is no longer with us, out of curiosity, hunted down a couple of photographs of the seasoned and more mature Bettie Page . In other words, wanted to see if she had aged gracefully. View images by visiting links below.

Closing out this short post with a quote from the lady herself which is a succinct statement she made to set the record straight.

"I was NEVER notorious." -- Bettie Page

I had heard about that--that she didn't want to be seen when she was older, and it made me so sad to think that our obsession with youth and beauty made her feel so devalued once she felt she'd lost it. How sad!

That's probably why they lost track of her. Because she was notorious and doing things to be on the front page of move mags.

There are a lot of famous people who were smart enough to step away from the limelight, whether they aged gracefully or not (the Golf Channel recently did a feature on Mickey Wright to celebrate her 80th birthday; and, while she gladly consented to phone interviews, she refused to be photographed). Then there are people who should be suing their plastic surgeons (hello, Dolly [Parton]) or kicking themselves because they refused to let nature take its course.

Nobody can stop the advance of old age .Poor woman ,she even can't confront this fact of life .

I was just thinking the same, too. I mean we all get old, how bad could it have got for her to feel she had to go into hiding?! Very sad, indeed.

jiangliu1949 and Lushlala - If you live, you will age. No getting around it. If I am blessed to live a long life, I do hope good health is also granted to me. I want to have the strength to help others. Thanks for your comments.

I know what you mean the aging process has not gone well for some celebrities, and add plastic surgery to there bad aging process and then you have an absolute disaster. I think it is also that some of them have harsh lifestyle that don't bode well for there looks.

Bettie Page was only briefly an erotic model in the early '50s then dropped out. She deliberately stayed anonymous but in her elder years, she was approached for merchandizing and needless to say her iconic image had value. See the movie The Notorious Bettie Page.

I really enjoyed your article and the links you shared. I think most of us have a bit of Bettie Page's way of thinking in us about aging. Sure, we all get old (if we're lucky) but most of us don't like seeing it in our mirror, never mind showing it to the world.
