STOP THIEF: Our NHS(national health service)

I wrote yesterday about a petition signing that I was part of in my own area.

It was in order to help stop the ongoing privatisation of our beloved NHS.

I was so pleased this morning ,when I visited the website of 38degrees.org.uk , who organised the petition.

I was happy to read that similar action took place in many parts of the UK and all at the same time. In all I believe that 11,000 people took part in the signing.I know most of you will acknowledge that that was a powerful amount of people, easy to say 'yes.I'll help'but they actually turned up and got stuck in,the signatures were flowing in, with many getting out of cars, with babies, and dogs, literally queuing in turn to sign.

Surely public health should come before private greed! They certainly thought so! I say 'my parents paid into this and many of your parents(UK)and you! Don't let the posh thieves grab it from us....

We are in a fat mess with Obamacare here. What a joke it has turned out to be.

maxeen wrote on March 1, 2015, 6:25 PM

I think many are ill with the fear of being ill! Stress creators in charge!! just so unjust..

bestwriter wrote on March 1, 2015, 7:10 PM

That shows how important and urgent the need is.

maxeen wrote on March 1, 2015, 7:14 PM

Absolutely! Both of those things..

There are times in our lives when we have to stand up and fight for hat we believe. I hope everything works out. I am in the US. So I really do not know, what is going on politically in your country. But, the fight for social security here is strong. SS it the same as NHS in your country I believe.

HappyLady wrote on March 2, 2015, 3:21 AM

I have been living under a rock! I want to sign this petition. Our NHS is amazing. We may grumble, but I have friends in other countries unable to afford a visit to the doctor. Here we have no such worry as yet.

MegL wrote on March 2, 2015, 3:34 AM

Social security in the UK are payments to help tide over someone who has lost their job or who is too ill to work. The NHS is the national health service which is mostly free from birth to death, including doctor visits, hospital stays, etc.

Koalemos wrote on March 2, 2015, 4:48 AM

The government is constantly looking for ways to reduce the cost of the NHS, whereas we both know that stopping the abuse of the system would make vast difference.

Hollyhocks100 wrote on March 2, 2015, 6:23 AM

What is going to replace the NHS and will this mean UK citizens have to pay for private health care? I really hope not as I pay into the Spanish system and it works out very expensive as I have also to pay full price for prescriptions too.

msiduri wrote on March 2, 2015, 8:56 AM

OUCH! I guess I had thought that Spain like so many European countries had low-cost national health care. The US is such a mixed bag that it's almost like a roulette wheel.

msiduri wrote on March 2, 2015, 8:59 AM

Oh, if only it were so simple. And once the camel's nose in under the tent, there's no turning them back. It's greed that keeps the US system so labyrinthine and nearly impossible to negotiate. Even when you have good, decent insurance, you have to negotiate for coverage. "Oh, come do with cancer have you? Explain to us why we should cover your treatment."

WordChazer wrote on March 2, 2015, 2:31 PM

Did you see the series of articles on the state of hospital food on the Guardian earlier? Someone pointed out in the comments that when a politico has a heart attack, stroke or needs scraping off the road after a car crash, it's the NHS medics who will do it first, and the local ER/ED/A&E which will care for them first, long before their snooty private health care ever kicks in.

(I speak as someone who cannot even be considered for private healthcare because I have too much previous risk...)

WordChazer wrote on March 2, 2015, 2:34 PM

Make the health tourists pay already. We have to pay if we get sick in the US, and even in Europe if we don't have health insurance. I am hoping to be able to use my finance knowledge to help my bosses out with tracking invoice payments from tourists and private patients soon, and with luck and a fair wind it will result in more money being collected for our hospital.

The NHS needs a major overhaul. There are too many managers and too few front-line staff

AliCanary wrote on March 2, 2015, 4:27 PM

Oh no, privatization is what made ours so messed up. Profit should never be a motive with medical care.

maxeen wrote on March 2, 2015, 6:12 PM

Quite right ! The abuse of allowing private patients to enjoy the hospitals and the services of Doctors originally trained by the NHS of which we have paid for. That is a massive abuse!

maxeen wrote on March 2, 2015, 6:18 PM

I paid £80 + for a prescription for antibiotics when on a visit to France, yes our foreign friends should pay ,it all helps....

maxeen wrote on March 2, 2015, 7:11 PM

That was what happened in the beginning of privatisation, took away the Matrons and replaced with the arty, fartys,

We had the National Health Service since the end of the second world war. It is a nationalised health service i.e. it belong to the people.. The labour party of UK believed in Nationalisation of our main assets. The danger now is that a thing called TTIP which includes many US companies are trying to BUY our NHS--Sorry! It isn't up for sale ! BUT we have a hell of a fight on as Cameron, known here as DODGY DAVe is intent on selling off our NHS.
Nothing worthwhile is easy, we need to fight ,hope all who can do so will sign the petition by 38degrees....

maxeen wrote on March 2, 2015, 7:23 PM

Just type in 38 degrees before you know it you will be helping to get signatures and meeting lovely people as I did.. ASk for a pack...

maxeen wrote on March 2, 2015, 7:32 PM

Nothing! It is quite irreplaceable! No because we can't afford to pay for private health! We will just all rollover and die.....

maxeen wrote on March 2, 2015, 7:34 PM

Designed to confuse and devide no doubt!

maxeen wrote on March 2, 2015, 7:36 PM

That is an unknown quantity to us! It may be very real though if people don't stand up and fight against TTIP.

maxeen wrote on March 2, 2015, 7:39 PM

No ! It certainly shouldn't be,but it is riddled in it ,with all the surplus drugs +++++

maxeen wrote on March 4, 2015, 6:22 AM

If they win the complete packet to privatise we are well and truly done for, they are almost their now so UK voters need to protest NOW.

Coffee wrote on March 4, 2015, 9:36 AM

It's great that you're doing something about a cause you believe in.

RonElFran wrote on March 4, 2015, 4:53 PM

How to provide health care for everyone is still a big bone of contention here in the U. S. Apparently it's not easy anywhere in the world.

maxeen wrote on March 4, 2015, 5:12 PM

Thanks! If we don't the robbers have won.

maxeen wrote on March 4, 2015, 5:20 PM

Must be awful for all the confusion that is created in order to decieve. In the UK we have had a free health service for all of our lives and now we are seing it stolen from under our noses(It is ours and we have all paid for it) A joke called TIPP is sneaking into the taking over of it,thanks for your comment..

seren3 wrote on March 5, 2015, 10:57 PM

I have read so much both for and against the NHS that I don't know what to think. We've never had anything like it so there's nothing to compare it to!

crowntower wrote on March 7, 2015, 3:35 AM

Greediness should stop, and beside the health of course the welfare of the citizen must prioritized first, than to some greedy earning profit... and yes it can be a thief with much higher education, shame on their face.

maxeen wrote on March 7, 2015, 8:40 AM

I suppose it must be so unreal to a person who hasn't experienced the actual system of Health care for all! Free! Paid for by the Government, who use our money, Our Money that is stopped from our wages, each time we get paid. From our very first job through to our pensions,we are still paying..
In the Uk the philosophy is that we put in to Government, politicians, who pledge to work for us(not against us) I cannot think of any person I know who would wish the Health Service to disintegrate into private hands. The Doctors are the most voiciferous in their love of the Health Service.

maxeen wrote on March 7, 2015, 8:42 AM

They don't have a face! It is well and truly in the trough of grabbing for the sake of grabbing ,they have contempt for ordinary people..I fear..

scheng1 wrote on March 13, 2015, 9:53 AM

I wonder if the government will give way. if they need your votes this year, they will probably give way.

maxeen wrote on March 13, 2015, 11:04 AM

I have never had a health insurance policy,I don't believe in it but that is what they are trying to force on us ..

maxeen wrote on March 13, 2015, 11:10 AM

38 degrees have just sent out new petition forms saying just that ! We are to enquire from the candidates in the next election if they are going to respect our wishes and vote against privatisation....

msiduri wrote on March 13, 2015, 12:38 PM

Designed for maximum inefficiency. And then there's the Medicaid system for the poor and the Medicare system for the elderly and the disabled. No one is happy and no one is satisfied. Each reform only add a layer of complication.

maxeen wrote on March 13, 2015, 5:18 PM

That is just what they want, how will people who aren't in employment be able to survive? Very frightening.
