Which One Would You Choose?

I caught caught in the rain on my way from the Templeton house to the Paso house around five. I must have been driving under this dark cloud. After taking the photo above and a few others around the Templeton house, I wanted to get over to Castoro Cellars for a certain shot at sundown, but my computer wanted to do 14 updates and I had to wait.

While waiting I harvested some wild edibles, namely mallow and henbit, and I found a baby oregano plant and potted it to bring over here. I also took a few more photos. The grass is now at least a foot tall in the orchard. I was getting worried because the sun was getting lower and I wanted to get to Castoro before dark, so I left my computer to finish shutting down and restarting.

About a mile down 46 West it started to pour. It kept pouring until the turn-off for Castoro Cellars, and it slowed a bit, although it was still raining. I decided to chance it and get out and take a few photos, rain or no rain. I have presented here three variations of the shot I wanted. If you were going to choose a poster between one of the three to buy, which would you choose? They are marked A, B, and C. please let me know which you like best by letter name and why, if you would be so kind. I like each for a different reason.

By the way, by the time I got back here, a distance of seven miles, it was not raining at my house, and didn't look as though it had, but it was raining on Oak Lane, a short walk away, where I took some more photos.

A is my favorite. We start out sometimes, only seeing the darkness. But if we allow ourselves to see beyond, we may find that there is light in the distance makes things clearer. There is hope in this photograph for me.
It speaks to what I have claimed as my purpose in life several years ago: " help others to think, see, and live beyond the challenges they face."

C is my favorite. I like B more than A because it is more intimate, but C has enough light to allow you to pick out details in the landscape. I also like that one bright ray of sunshine breaking through. I hope you'll go grab more photos on a bright sunny day with a beautiful blue sky.

i think C covers more of the sky. I will go for that.

A is my favorite with B a close second. A just draws me more with the feeling of space and room

Thank you for such thoughtful feedback.

I do have some daytime photos of this, but usually I photograph it around sunset because that's when I can get there. Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks. I appreciate your opinion.

I like C the best. The asymmetrical balance is more creative, and also it is the only image in which the lower edge of the clouds does not cut across the windmill, which creates a bit of visual confusion. Last but not least, I especially like the way the road leads into the picture, rather than simply being a feature at a distance.

AliCanary wrote on March 1, 2015, 12:32 AM

Ha ha! I wanted to be sure I made my comment before reading any of the other feedback, and I'm amused because I focused solely on the strength of the composition, where other people talked about the feelings the images invoked. I'm so technical emoticon  I did like the optimistic little patch of blue sky in A, but I'm standing by my choice. Artistically, I think C is the best. I really like that one at the top, too!

BarbRad wrote on March 1, 2015, 3:21 AM

I was hoping to have the windmill completely in the light, but the sun was too bright for the camera if I aimed that way. Also, it's really hard to take time about getting the perfect shot when it's raining and you are trying to protect your camera as much as possible. I appreciate your making objective comment on the composition. I wonder if people base buying decisions on composition or feeling they get when viewing.

Hollyhocks100 wrote on March 1, 2015, 4:47 AM

I think I would choose B.

ChickJ wrote on March 1, 2015, 7:11 AM

Depends on how warm the rain is and if there is lighting. If I see lighting I will run home as fast as I can.

jiangliu1949 wrote on March 1, 2015, 7:37 AM

I like all three photos in which black clouds blotted out the sky ,sunset glow was blazing ,they two contrasted sharply with each other .

Kasman wrote on March 1, 2015, 8:18 AM

I'd go for 'A'. That windmill pump thingy is a good focal point but it isn't so close that it drowns out the rest of the image.

BarbRad I love all the pictures you took. But to me the one that captures the essence of the changing of the weather would be ( A ). I think this one has it going on.

GayleStorm wrote on March 1, 2015, 12:12 PM

All your photos are so lovely. B is my favorite of this set though. I love the glint of light barely peeking through. A is a close second though.

AliCanary wrote on March 1, 2015, 5:08 PM

Anyone would probably say feeling, and so would I, but even if people are not aware of it, the composition affects that. You seem a bit defensive, by the way, even though I complimented many things. I didn't mean to cause any discomfort by saying why I thought one was better than the others; I was trying to give helpful feedback.

I like them all but I would have to say I like D the best. I am a night person so it fits me.

LilyDay wrote on March 3, 2015, 12:09 AM

I like "B" the best. It quite nicely focuses in on the windmill and sky.

Carmelanirel wrote on March 4, 2015, 6:18 PM

I think I would choose A and I don't really know other than seeing the windmill with the clouds over it like that, just looks really cool.

BarbRad wrote on March 5, 2015, 10:07 PM

Thanks for the feedback. It's interesting how each person responds differently to these.

BarbRad wrote on March 5, 2015, 10:09 PM

I wasn't taking offense. I'm just seeking more details. The more I learn, the better. I agree with you. Most people aren't analyzing why they like one thing more than another.

BarbRad wrote on March 5, 2015, 10:11 PM

I don't blame you. I would not duck under a tree, but get back in the car to go home. My car was near.

BarbRad wrote on March 5, 2015, 10:12 PM

Thank you. I also think each picture has its strengths.

BarbRad wrote on March 5, 2015, 10:13 PM

Thank you for your opinion with reasons for it.

Thank you, Gayle. I love your reasoning.

BarbRad wrote on March 5, 2015, 10:15 PM

I think you mean C, which is the last photo. There is no D. I also like the dark background for the windmill.

BarbRad wrote on March 5, 2015, 10:16 PM

Thank you for your feedback and your reasons.

BarbRad wrote on March 5, 2015, 10:17 PM

You have just confirmed that people don't always analyze why they like one photo over another. Thank you for your opinion.

crowntower wrote on March 5, 2015, 11:58 PM

I chose B and C.... hehehehe... Because photo A did not show the road, Photo C show the road clearly and I like it... photo C there is a glimpse of the road, and I like the shot of the wind mill and of the ground. God bless.

BodieMor wrote on March 6, 2015, 1:31 AM

They are all lovely, but I prefer the composition of C. It seems more aesthetic to me.

Carmelanirel wrote on March 6, 2015, 8:45 AM

It could be that they don't have the words and when I saw a member mention about Cs asymmetrical balance, I know know hwy I like A, it is the symmetrical balance and it is like I am seeing the "whole picture"

BarbRad wrote on March 7, 2015, 4:45 AM

You have very good eyes. I don't see a road in any of them, though I may be barely making out one in C.

BarbRad wrote on March 7, 2015, 4:46 AM

Thank you for your opinion.

AngelSharum wrote on April 14, 2015, 10:32 PM

I didn't see the before. At least I don't remember it. I like the composition of C best but the wider view of A. I'm no help.

BarbRad wrote on April 16, 2015, 1:37 AM

Thank you for your opinions anyway, though. Both of them.

Firecracker wrote on April 18, 2015, 4:29 AM

I would have to say that I like C. Not only do I like the dark clouds, but the way the sun lights everything up enough so that things are more noticeable in this picture.
