Sworn to Secrecy!
My husband and I have rented a small ranch house in Florida for next winter. We need to escape the Chicago area winters for a month.
This is a good plan. However, we cannot tell anyone in my husband's family our vacation location.
My husband's family lives all around Florida. I love his family, but drama is always in the works with his side of the family. I think there are just too darn many of them!
I have been told I am not to mention the location of our Florida vacation to any member of his family. I cannot even tell my mother-in-law who is my best buddy.
If our Florida location were leaked to any family member, then we would be invaded by brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and their spouses. No way does my husband what the drama to come to our peaceful vacation abode.
So, I can only tell my family where we will be for one month in Florida. They are not prone to invasion, and do they do not like drama!

Family drama is never a good thing especially if you are trying to enjoy a vacation.

Keep it a secret. One of my wife's sisters is the world's biggest drama queen and if there isn't a drama happening naturally in her life she will soon engineer one! For this reason we avoid her if at all possible - it makes for a quieter life!

Sounds like an excellent plan. We often visit the place we used to live without telling anyone we're coming. Makes life easier at times.

Somehow, I always feel and know that eventually the secret will come out and things will be worse and feelings of hurt and complains will make the drama worse. Easier just to look for another warmer spot. Come to Malaysia.

But can you be sure that no one in your family might slip up and tell someone in his family? I completely understand the need for privacy, though. Thank goodness you only are only renting, not buying. Having to keep that secret for years would be very hard on you!

Well, we are retired, but we have not gone away due to caring for my 93-year-old dad. Now, dad is in a wonderful assisted living facility close to my home and they do just a wonderful job caring for him. I never felt that I could not leave Dad, even though my sister is close by too, but I think all will be well with Dad now since he is so happy at his residence and loves all the activities and residents. I will worry, but Sis will take over.
