Phone or Email? Which do you prefer?
In the age of technology, I know some people say we are becoming more and more impersonal because we always are hiding behind a computer screen. I do believe there is a time for technology and a time to avoid it. I'm currently in the middle of a refinance and they are big on calling me ALL THE TIME, so it prompted this post....
When do I want to be on the PHONE?
When I have long conversations with my mom, sister or husband, I prefer the phone. When the conversation involves a lot of back and forth, as it usually does when I'm talking to them, I want to talk and not have to write. I also prefer using the phone if I need an instant response for something. Nothing worse than needing an answer immediately and waiting for someone to read your text or email.
When do I prefer TEXT / IM?
When the conversation is short, or I just need to tell somebody something or ask a question, I prefer text even if it is one of the three people above. I also prefer text when it comes to talking to my friends because we are usually all busy with our kids and it's just easier to text, which means we don't have to respond instantly. We will text each other all day sometimes, with breaks in between whenever we are busy.
When do I prefer EMAIL?
On the other hand, when it comes to business, I MUCH MUCH prefer email. For many reasons. For one, businesses tend to talk your ear off with customer service speak when I just want them to get to the point. Second, they are often asking for information or documents which I need a chance to look up. Finally, they always seem to call when I'm not able to answer, and they don't answer when I call back. In the case of this refinance, there have already been 3 times where I wish they would just email me their question so I could hit reply when convenient :/
But Businesses Prefer the PHONE :(
Sadly, businesses seem to prefer the phone. My "customer service specialist" for this refinance said she's going to call me every few days just to inform me what step they are at. Ug, I guess she is going to get to hear my voicemail A LOT because I usually can't answer when she calls. The worst is they tend not to leave a good voicemail. All they say is "call us back". Can't they at least leave a good voicemail with their question and save us all some time?
I mostly started this post to VENT because this was irritating to me today. I want to refinance, I'll save money, but I cannot wait until this whole process is DONE! Thanks for listening :) Now tell me, what do you prefer??
