Earliest Photo of Myself

A few weeks ago, near the beginning of February, I read a post where Kasman challenged us to post the earliest known photo we have of ourselves. I knew I had a photo somewhere, but kept forgetting to look for it. However, today something triggered my memory, so here I am. This is the earliest photo of myself in my possession, taken when I was obviously only a few months old.

You may think my brother, nine years older than myself, looks happy to be holding me. Think again. Just as the photo was being taken he felt a warm trickle seep on to the hand that was holding me. My nappy was decidedly wet, but he knew he dare not drop me. By the look on my face I can't help wondering if there was more than a warm trickle at stake.

So, there it is, a photo over 65 years old, unfortunately creased right down the middle. I look at it and wonder how that chubby little baby turned into the person I am today. So, thanks Kasman for suggesting we seek out such photos to share on here. I'm glad I finally found mine.

The photo is the best tool to record our past.

So who told you about that embarrassing thing you did!? emoticon  Cute baby you were.

A bouncing baby girl that! Little could y'all know then what life would be like now.

Thanks so much for sharing that photo! You look darling. Can understand why your brother was not too sure whether having a little baby sis, who was quite damp, was the best thing at the time..

bestwriter When were both adults, I mentioned to my brother how happy he looked to having a little sister after being an only child for so long. Then the truth came out. He told me emoticon

Kungfu123 I agree, and I'm fortunate to have many of my childhood.

VinceSummers and don't you just love that old car with its running board, providing a convenient seat!

valmnz wrote on February 21, 2015, 10:52 PM

GemstonePink at least he was polite enough to grin and bear it. I imagine many kids today would have handed me back very quickly!

That is a great photo! I have a baby photo of myself somewhere but have no clue where to even start looking.

On a side note, my friend is binge watching Season 18 of "The Bachelor" and it caught my eye when they visited Lake Taupo!

You are so mean-looking in that photo, Ms. Val, hahaha!

This is a nice photo Val. All my early photos are in the albums that my Mom still owns. The only I have shows a little duckie at the age of 3.

Both you and your brother....cute.
I love the story of you "wetting" his hand/lap. LOL

maxeen wrote on February 22, 2015, 12:53 PM

So sweet, hope your brother wasn't too bothered.

VinceSummers wrote on February 22, 2015, 12:57 PM

I once owned a '41 Buick Roadmaster -- it boasted NO running board. It was too luxurious to have a running board... DUMMIES. Running boards were great. Just another advertiser misleading the public as to the real reason for its removal.

Great - I love embarrassing stories from our childhood. They always seem to lead to other stories about us as children.

valmnz wrote on February 22, 2015, 3:45 PM

Kasman not only about us as children, but about the times we lived in!

msiduri wrote on February 22, 2015, 5:26 PM

That's a great pic, and a great family story to go with it. You have an understanding brother.

These kinds of mementos of our past are priceless, aren't they?

bestwriter wrote on February 22, 2015, 9:15 PM

I have posted some in response to your challenge.

valmnz wrote on February 22, 2015, 10:41 PM

Maybe I still am FernandoSHA emoticon

valmnz wrote on February 22, 2015, 10:42 PM

Aha, Lake Taupo, I was there at the beginning of this month.

valmnz wrote on February 22, 2015, 10:42 PM

At least they are all safe in one place LadyDuck and you'll receive them eventually.

valmnz wrote on February 22, 2015, 10:43 PM

Poor man, he still giggles about it.

valmnz wrote on February 22, 2015, 10:44 PM

You kn, I've never asked him if he was bothered. But of course, he was nine years old, he must have hated it.

valmnz wrote on February 22, 2015, 10:45 PM

And the photos you posted were absolutely beautiful bestwriter

valmnz wrote on February 22, 2015, 10:46 PM

I guess' he'd waited nine years to get a brother or sister, without realising what the reality would be!

valmnz wrote on February 22, 2015, 10:46 PM

Family stories are what keep us all together.

bestwriter wrote on February 22, 2015, 10:54 PM

The one who started the challenge has yet to go there emoticon

valmnz wrote on February 22, 2015, 10:56 PM

I don't think he's been to mine either, but he doesn't seem to be here online much. Not everyone spends hours on their computer like we do emoticon

bestwriter wrote on February 22, 2015, 11:04 PM

Ofcourse he is very much here emoticon

celticeagle wrote on February 24, 2015, 5:18 AM
