Snow in Athens
Yesterday and this morning we had a little snow here in Athens. This happens about once a year and the snowfall is very little in the lower areas and sometimes quite heavy in the mountains. The snow falls and quickly melts as a rule, but when it sticks, even for a short time, it is a wonderful sight to see. The beauty of it falling is mesmerizing and as it covers the foliage and ground, it creates an image of serenity and makes everything look clean and pure. Today, this led to my thinking of the verse in Isaiah 1:18 which tells us that God says “though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow.” Is there anything whiter than snow? I can't think of anything else that is that white. What a wonderful thing to have our sins forgiven and be made pure and white as snow. Cleansed by the blood of Christ and found righteous in the sight of God because we are covered by Christ's righteousness just as the snow covers the dirt and weeds and makes the ground appear clean.
