Family Meals are so Important

Family is the basic unit of the society. This is where everything starts. Parents are the first teachers and home is the first school. This is where the first socialization happens and learning take place. Family bonding is very important in empowering children to have confidence and trust in themselves.

In such a busy world like we are having right now where both parents work to earn a good living for the whole family, having dinners together is somewhat not given importance. Finding time to eat dinner as a family has more benefits that go beyond nutrition and good health. Why dinner and not other meals in a regular day? Every day we all get up so early preparing to go to work and the children to go to school. Everyone is in a hurry. So dinner is the perfect time that the whole family can bond together without the worries of the day’s work ahead.

According to some studies, children who eat with their family do better in school and are less likely to indulge themselves in vices at an early age. If both parents are working, someone has to give the time to eat with the children. Aside from other benefits, having dinner together gives an opportunity for both parents to promote health and nutrition. It is not good to make children eat in front of the television. When the whole family eats together, studies also show that kids eat better because eating together no matter what is on the dinner table slows down the process extending more family time for catching up with each other’s stories. Talking out with children will give the parents the chance to be updated with their activities.

You are right. it is such an ideal time for parents and children to interact and form stronger relationships. Our lives have become far too busy, not just parents, but kids and what is expected of them as well.

That was a rule in the good old days when there was a set pattern. But today with shifts and members getting home at different times it kind of becomes difficult but eating together is a great way to bond.

I also believe in the importance of spending meal time with your kids. I grew up with parents who took the extra mile just to be able to spend dinner with us and somehow, we grew up to be better people. That is what I intend to do with my son too - spend even just dinner with him and be able to spend quality time together.

I pity the kids who do not have parents to cook for them.

Yes, having meals together is good to keep the bond in the family stronger. It's the time when everyone can interact with each other and parents will know how the day went with the children. Keeping the practice will also encourage the children to do the same when the time comes that they have their own families too.

I agree. Family time together is so precious, and it is best to bond over a shared meal.

In this world that most parents are busy working to support their family, they should not also forget the importance of communication.

That is also true. Like for us, we only have our meal together during dinner time and during weekends when everyone is not so busy. AT least we give it a time and find time really out of our busy schedules.

That is great. My parents were also giving importance to eating together as a family so its the same thing I do with my kids.

I also know some especially in our neighborhood. I guess it just happens because parents are too busy.

Through eating together as a family, we can share updates and enjoy the meal together.
