Al Pacino Movie Marathon

I am a HUGE Al Pacino fan. Since I saw his 1992 film, Scent of a Woman from which he won his first and so far, only Academy Award for Best Actor, I have been hooked with the man and his craft. Today, since we're having system outages (which means almost no client contact) I have buffered three Al Pacino movies. I'm already done with the first one so that means I only have two more movies to watch.

1. Carlito's Way - In this movie he plays the role of Carlito Brigante who has imprisoned for five years but was released afterwards. He tried his best not to go back to his old ways but then circumstances brought him back to the world of drugs and guns. Sean Penn is also in this movie playing the role of Carlito's lawyer. Two excellent actors in one excellent film!

2. Donnie Brasco - Al Pacino starred alongside Johnny Depp where they play Lefty (of the mafia) and Donnie Brasco (FBI undercover agent) respectively. This is based on the real life story of Joseph Pistone aka Donnie Brasco. (Johnny Depp is one of my most favourite actor from his generation and seeing the two of them alongside each other is nirvana for me)

3. Any Given Sunday - I have seen this movie some two or three years back and have loved it since. Here, Pacino plays the role of Tony D'Amato, a football coach. The film depicts the struggles of Tony and his team and once again, in achieving success. (This is the last movie in our list since we all are football fans and we want to save the best for last. LOL)

Any other Al Pacino fans here? What's your favourite Pacino movie?

I also really like Al Pacino. Some of my favorite movies with him include Carlito's Way, Heat and The Insider. Awesome films!

SoundNFury I am yet to see The Insider but I also like Heat where he starred with Robert de Niro :)

I love Pacino. I have to love him to have sat through that horrid hunk of junk "Cruising." (DO NOT watch it, trust me, NOBODY loves Pacino that much....and not only was Pacino in it but my favorite living songwriter [John Hiatt] had a song in it!) (PS -- if you do watch it, don't come crying to me because I warned you NOT to watch it!)

My favorite Pacino movies are Dog Day Afternoon, And Justice For All, Scent of a Woman, Serpico, and of course, the Godfather trilogy. Other than Cruising, my least favorites are Author! Author! and Scarface.

FourWalls I love Scarface! Too bad you didn't like it that much. Regarding 'Cruising' your warnings just made me all the more interested to watch it. lol! I'll try to look for this 1980 film later when I get home tonight. Thanks!

I do not watch movies at all. I rather read books.

Pacino has made a lot of junk in recent years and his reasonable excuse are the paychecks pay for his stage productions. You should see Panic in Needle Park to see a young Pacino before The Godfather. Check out Scarecrow for an interesting teaming with Gene Hackman. Sea of Love with the famed sex scene with Ellen Barkin. Don't forget Glengarry Glen Ross.

You're going to regret watching "Cruising." Trust me on that. There are some movies that just shouldn't be watched.

I have never heard of any of these movies before. Is al pacino still alive? I think he was the one in the godfather movies but its hard for me to remember.

MommyCharm wrote on January 29, 2015, 9:41 PM

shaggin83 yes! Al Pacino is still alive!

JohnRoberts despite all the flops he has made through the years, nothing will ever break my love for Mr. Pacino. Haha. Besides, almost all stars have their own share of ups and downs. And Mr. Pacino said he doesn't want to be known as a star, but as an artist or an actor.

I don't watch a lot of movies, and I can't imagine watching three movies in a day! I spend too much time on the computer emoticon

Al Pacino is a great actor in my movie going too. I have not seen many of his movies but the ones I have seen have made me really admire his acting.

I have only seen one in the list and that is "Any Given Sunday". My favorites would be "Devil's Advocate" and "Simone".

I'm a big Al Pacino fan. I've seen all three movies you've mentioned in your post. Hard to pick out just one favorite movie but from the three you mentioned, 'Any Given Sunday' is tops in my list.
