Analysing the Situation When Choosing Categories

The little cutie in the photo above is not mine, but belongs to my sister. I do get to look after him occasionally though. Anyway, I thought the look on his face sums up how I've spent the last little time, in analysing the category situation here on Persona Paper. I'm glad I did make the time, not only to explore what is being written in the various categories, but also to review where I've been placing my writing. I can see I've been lazy in making category selections, tending to opt for the easy 'Personal'. Closer analysis shows some of my pieces would have been better suited in more specific categories. I'm going to put more thought into the categories I write for from now on. Maybe focusing on specific categories will help me generate more writing ideas. Making this decision gives me a more positive direction to move in.

I think you can aim to top the leaderboard in some categories.

Lol, thanks for the confidence! It was when i discovered I was No 10 in one of the categories I started thinking how many more top tens can i break into!

In this case, you better write a few more articles to that category, just in case other writers manage to edge you out.

My thoughts exactly. This feature of top ten contributors in a category reminds me of the old Factoidz, now Knoji.

I put some of my posts about teaching under random. I wonder if the powers that be here on the site would consider adding a teaching or education category.

I feel dumb, I have not looked at them, I tend to stay in random. By the way..cute dog!

Some sites do have an Education section - maybe we should both ask them emoticon

I opt mostly for the Personal category, as well. I can't imagine that mine would fit in many others.

I am used to forums that have categories so I always know to look them over carefully before I even start to write.

It can be tough finding a category that really fits a post. This is especially true for sites where you're writing about your own life and day to day minutae stuff.
