I Think I Overdid Today

The electrician's visit in the morning meant some book boxes had to be moved. My husband did his best but I know it was hard on him, since he can't bend over all the way and pick things up. So after the electrician left, I put everything back. I was careful but I still probably didn't exactly follow doctor's orders.

After I made my posts this morning, I decided I should probably go for a walk, since I've skipped the past two days. I had only gone two blocks when I saw my neighbor working in her garden and stopped to talk. She had just pulled out a pincushion flower plant she was going to throw away, and I talked her into giving it to me, instead. I thought I might be able to root parts of it. Of course that meant I had to do some more bending over to get the slips into soil and plant a few seeds from the dry flowers. I'm really not supposed to be gardening, and I didn't do anything heavy, but my neck muscles are a bit sore tonight. I didn't even think to wear my collar because I don't have to wear it around home.

I don't think I hurt my neck surgery with any of this, but the muscles do hurt a bit. After I finished with the planting, I tried to finish the walk but got tired more easily than usual so only did about four blocks one way. So all the walking was about twelve blocks total. Not much.

Photo is of the scabiosa plant my neighbor gave me, leaning over the pot where I planted part of it.

That's good that you were able to get the plant, instead of having it thrown out. Hopefully you didn't injure your neck and it's just a little soreness.

Take it easy. You don't want to undo all the effort you have put into getting this far!

BarbRad wrote on January 24, 2015, 3:56 AM

That's what I'm hoping.

BarbRad wrote on January 24, 2015, 3:56 AM

You're right. I will try to behave tomorrow.

That pain you are talking could be because your neck is not used to that movement and just a result of that. Just as we get it if we strain a bit after resting for protracted periods.

It seems you're quite industrious. We've to balance several things each day.

wolfgirl569 wrote on January 24, 2015, 9:24 AM

Be careful on what you do, you dont want to reinjure anything.

BarbRad You do have to take it easy. But maybe some exercise is good. Pace yourself. And don't be picking up heavy objects. The electrician should have moved those boxes.

I think we all have our days. I really hope you feel better tomorrow and your neck did not get injured.

This is Guiness the Cat. You should do like me. I make it a policy to never overdo.

Sheilamarie78 wrote on January 24, 2015, 1:42 PM

I hope you didn't hurt yourself today, Barb. Be careful. It was nice to save the plant, though.

carolscash wrote on January 24, 2015, 5:26 PM

I suggest that you take a good rest for the rest of the day.

WordChazer wrote on January 24, 2015, 7:27 PM

Do be careful of yourself! The weather here hasn't been helpful to my joints and muscles lately so I can only speculate what all of this must be doing to yours.

BarbRad wrote on January 24, 2015, 8:25 PM

I think that must be it, since it's better today.

BarbRad wrote on January 24, 2015, 8:26 PM

Today I've only been cooking and writing and taking a short walk.

BarbRad wrote on January 24, 2015, 8:27 PM

Seems to have been temporary strain.

BarbRad wrote on January 24, 2015, 8:28 PM

I think he could have offered, but he finally did move the bottom box.

BarbRad wrote on January 24, 2015, 8:28 PM

Seems to be doing well today.

BarbRad wrote on January 24, 2015, 8:30 PM

Yes. You do have it easy. I was very tempted to crawl back in bed this morning because my tummy didn't feel well last night. I didn't eat breakfast until 3 PM.

BarbRad wrote on January 24, 2015, 8:30 PM

i seem not to have the neck pains anymore today.

BarbRad wrote on January 24, 2015, 8:31 PM

I didn't exactly rest, but I didn't do anything strenuous, either.

BarbRad wrote on January 24, 2015, 8:32 PM

We've had very nice weather these past two days. It's really pleasant outside. People are wearing shorts.

inertia4 wrote on January 24, 2015, 8:39 PM

BarbRad Okay. But still, knowing you couldn't he had to be capable of moving a few boxes.

valmnz wrote on January 24, 2015, 8:51 PM

Oh my goodness, you did all that after neck surgery? Perhaps a quieter day tomorrow 😊

Carmelanirel wrote on January 24, 2015, 8:52 PM

Oh, be careful, maybe if you put ice on your neck tonight you will be feel better tomorrow.

WordChazer wrote on January 24, 2015, 9:49 PM

Shorts in Southern Cali where 14*C/57*F is thought cold, maybe. Shorts in the UK, not so much. Currently 2*C/36*F and I believe no more than 7*C /45*F tomorrow either. Still good enough for me to combine writing, eBay and laundry, though.

LilyDay wrote on January 25, 2015, 10:52 AM

It's good that it is better today. It will likely be a while before you can do stuff like that without feeling strain from it.

AngelSharum wrote on January 25, 2015, 7:55 PM

I hope you didn't do any bad damage.

HappyLady wrote on January 26, 2015, 7:04 PM

It is good you feel like doing things, but do be careful. It might have been overdoing it a bit today, as you say.

BarbRad wrote on January 26, 2015, 11:00 PM

When tomorrow came I was wiped out.

BarbRad wrote on January 26, 2015, 11:01 PM

It got better after a night of rest.

BarbRad wrote on January 26, 2015, 11:02 PM

I see the doctor again in two weeks, and I expect to be able to resume normal activities again then.

BarbRad wrote on January 26, 2015, 11:03 PM

Seems OK.

BarbRad wrote on January 26, 2015, 11:03 PM

It looks like I didn't do any damage to myself. I just got tired.

Carmelanirel wrote on January 28, 2015, 5:41 PM

That's good.
