Considering Myself Told Off

I got my first and perfectly deserved telling off from Persona Pages as on one of my posts yesterday I added one of my own personally taken photos but completely forgot to credit it to myself.

I quickly fixed the oversight when notified of it, but I realized how easy it is to miss a detail like that. It might help if in page creation posts can’t go until you fill in the box for photo-images added, or ticked a box to say no image has been added if a post doesn’t have one.

The alert to correct the oversight asked me to address it within 48 hours which was fine on this occasion as it only took a minute to address when I saw the message but there are times when writers, myself included, may not be online for 48 hours or longer so perhaps more time might be useful in many cases.

My apologies to PP and I am now wearing the hair-shirt in all due penance.

Haha, well it happens. I have yet to make that oversight, fortunately. I don't want to get scolded! lol

MegL wrote on January 19, 2015, 3:59 AM

Yes, it's very easy to do.

UK_Writer wrote on January 19, 2015, 4:07 AM

If I'd received an email it could easily be overlooked in the tsunami of electronic rubbish that hits my Inbox! I've nearly 65,000 unread emails in my gmail - and sometimes don't even log on for 2-3 days.

bestwriter wrote on January 19, 2015, 4:54 AM

65,000!!! and here I was worried sick as to the 800 odd number I have. I regularly delete them. Nice to meet Guinness book of world record holders here (lol)

bestwriter wrote on January 19, 2015, 4:56 AM

You have a point there. There are several 'what ifs' here and the post not going past if it is incomplete could be a solution. I am already alerting Admin on so many issues. One more and I will be booted out (lol)

Consider yourself duly spanked, my friend!

I do not like getting told off, it makes me feel like I am back at school.

GedWrites wrote on January 19, 2015, 5:32 AM

I think it is 48hrs from the first time you see the message/warning, I could be wrong of course

NorthernLight wrote on January 19, 2015, 5:40 AM

It's good to see they're so quick of the mark.

arthurchappell wrote on January 19, 2015, 5:41 AM

Don't think they'll throw you out - they seem to welcome constructive feedback here

Koalemos wrote on January 19, 2015, 6:28 AM

Ah! So you are the mastermind behind the Great Image Scandal.
I do hope that no officers from Interpol or MI6 operatives are reading this post.

bestwriter wrote on January 19, 2015, 6:35 AM

I was just joking and you know that. emoticon

MaeLou wrote on January 19, 2015, 8:10 AM

It only counts the 48 hours AFTER you've seen the message :) No worries about anyone going to be suspended within 48 hours if they haven't yet seen it.

No worries :)

MaeLou wrote on January 19, 2015, 8:11 AM

You should receive an email, but if there are any issues, when you login you are automatically redirected to the user issue page, and it will likely annoy you because if you don't fix it, you'll continue to be redirected to that page first each time you login. The count down also doesn't count until you've logged in to see it.

UK_Writer wrote on January 19, 2015, 8:50 AM

Well, I signed up for a lot of sites in the past, to gain access to information - and then I was on their mailing list, so they emails kept coming. What I do is load gmail then search for things/people I am interested in. e.g each time I load it I search for siblings names in case they emailed me - and the word paypal in case somebody paid me. That's really all I'm interested in.... but the rest is there in case I want to see every email I got from those long forgotten sites for some reason.

UK_Writer wrote on January 19, 2015, 8:51 AM

That's really handy to know. Something I don't need to worry about then :) Great news.

bestwriter wrote on January 19, 2015, 8:56 AM

You can do one thing. You can create a folder in your inbox specially for Persona

peachpurple wrote on January 19, 2015, 8:59 AM

how did you know? Did the message came out on your profile page?

UK_Writer wrote on January 19, 2015, 9:04 AM

But then I'd need to spend hours thinking about other sites and doing that. I tried that once, in the past, for some emails and it didn't quite work out as intended.... so now I don't bother :)

Feisty56 wrote on January 19, 2015, 9:15 AM

Now you know you weren't "told off" as much as informed, but it does make for good reading, yes? I so far enjoy the interactions with administration/management here. Everything that I've witnessed has been fair and businesslike. The reminders are like the red marks of an editor.

arthurchappell wrote on January 19, 2015, 9:18 AM

e-mail alert and a message on the profile page peachpurple

arthurchappell wrote on January 19, 2015, 9:26 AM

thanks for clarification on that MaeLou much appreciated

That's a good suggestion! I haven't been hit by it yet, but I'm sure I will at some point, we all make mistakes. But your suggestion is good, especially when you point out that sometimes we can't get on the site for over 48 hours, I've been off the site for a week because of personal stuff, so something like this would have hurt me.

wolfgirl569 wrote on January 19, 2015, 9:42 AM

Bad Bad Bad. lol It is easy to do and I like that they notify us when we do forget instead of just not paying us.

FreyaYuki wrote on January 19, 2015, 9:52 AM

I like your suggestion of not being allowed to publish the post unless you add the image credits or unless you specify that you didn't use any images. This can be helpful since, sometimes, it's possible to forget to add the image credits. It would also be helpful if you were prompted to select the category of your post. If you forget to do this, it will end up on the Animals section since it's the first one on the list. Perhaps, the drop-down could start with a grayed-out wording that says something like, 'please choose the most appropriate category' or something like that and you won't be able to publish unless you choose a category.

MaeLou wrote on January 19, 2015, 11:02 AM

Read above. It's a non-issue :)

DWDavisRSL wrote on January 19, 2015, 11:03 AM

I will be sure to redouble my efforts to ensure I properly credit myself when using my own pictures. You are right, while it is easy to remember to give credit when using a public domain photo, it can be easy to forget to give yourself credit.

Kat- wrote on January 19, 2015, 11:18 AM

Oh OK...good to know, thanks!

WordChazer wrote on January 19, 2015, 1:38 PM

I agree, maybe elitecodex could change the coding to ensure that all fields in the editing tool are mandatory. I've not checked my issues today - reminds me I need to now.

elitecodex wrote on January 19, 2015, 2:42 PM

Probably a good idea... image credit issues seem to the the majority of the issues we are running into. I am also working on integrating some third party services where the image credit will be filled out for you. Would make stuff like this a thing of the past :)

Kasman wrote on January 19, 2015, 4:22 PM

The 48-hour countdown doesn't begin until you login and see the notification so if you are away for a week and are not on Persona Paper nothing will happen - until you login and the countdown starts.

WordChazer wrote on January 19, 2015, 8:01 PM

And good on you for cracking down on imaging crediting too - it's where so many other sites let themselves down. Third party services sound interesting, looking forward to that one.

Gina145 wrote on January 20, 2015, 7:22 AM

Both of those would be really useful, but it's good to know that PP are reasonable about mistakes, unlike another site most of us know.

mrsmerlin wrote on January 21, 2015, 3:04 PM

Hope they didn't make you sit on the naughty step for too long

BodieMor wrote on January 22, 2015, 2:34 AM

Tsk. Glad I read all the comments before I started worrying. I too sometimes don't log on for days...
