Improve Your Crossword Puzzle Skills
The only one thing you have to do to improve your crossword puzzle skill. READ, READ and more READING.
You have to do a lot of reading and in as many categories as possible. It will be like studying to be on Jeopardy. I've taken up a bigger interest in crossword puzzles recently. Right now I am doing easy ones using an app on Facebook. It's too hard to start right off the bat with the ones in a newspaper.
The best part of a puzzle is being to stop and save it. Work on it for about 30 minutes and then stopping gives a chance to rest the mind.
What I like about the puzzles is that it helps keep your mind sharp. If you don't know something, you can always look it up but it works best using your noggin.
Another thing you can do is to look up words in a dictionary on a regular basis. A good portion off puzzles is by giving you clues to words in a dictionary. Learn five words a day from the dictionary and practice using them regularly. The next time you pick up a fresh new puzzle, you are guaranteed to increase your chances of getting that portion correct.
Learn your geography on a general basis to include knowing the capital of countries. Puzzles will have at least one clue asking for a city of a country.
These are a good start. It will also do you a good to pay attention to some news and entertainment news even if you are not interested. Staying current with the news is a good portion of it as well.

After reading your post, I couldn't agree more.I enjoy doing crosswords too, and without reading, you lack the necessary knowledge to complete.
