New Updates are on the way

Hey everyone, I wanted to post about a handful of more updates that are going in soon (or already have). The first one, is based on the poll from MaeLou it seems that the majority of people prefer the activity stream only to go back 3 days so that change has been made already. It seemed that coming in second place was the existing 7 days, but I think it also depends on how many people you follow. At a certain point, your computer just can't handle all those items on a single page so it would make sense to curtail it some. I am thinking in the future we can make this adjustable but for now, we will keep it at three days and see how it works out.

I have also been working on a more mobile friendly version of the textfield when you are authoring an article. Now if you are on a mobile device, you will get a simple textbox for writing your article. Keep in mind that you will not have the fun formatting features that the desktop UI gives you but it will be more user friendly when writing. This should be installed tonight or tomorrow.

Finally, I wanted to briefly mention that we are working on another contest for the lucky member who submits article number 50,000. nbaquero did not only suggest the 10,000 but also the 20,000 mark. But with our increase in popularity we felt those milestones were reach too close together. We are thinking 50,000 would be another good one to reach, and we will discuss more details surrounding that in the coming days.

Wow 1 this sounds really exciting more incentives to keep writing, I am now super curious as to what the prize will be? I guess we will have to wait and see.

celticeagle wrote on January 16, 2015, 10:58 PM

Sounds interesting. Always nice to have something coming up to look forward to.

nbaquero wrote on January 16, 2015, 11:06 PM

elitecodex One more time thank you for your timely messages, and thanks for the mention. I think getting some recognition for the 50,000th is a great incentive for the community.
One thing I wanted to ask you is the new count under the categories, how is that calculated? I noticed it changed when you last did the update to add likes and flags on the comments. Have you noticed that?

LeaPea2417 wrote on January 16, 2015, 11:08 PM

Thank you for the informative updates. It is good to learn about them.

OldRoadsOnceTraveled wrote on January 17, 2015, 12:32 AM

Updates that make sense and are welcome, and are explained in advance ... not what many new members are used to!

paperdaisyflower7 wrote on January 17, 2015, 1:24 AM

that's great but how do we know what number we are on the post?

Dawnwriter wrote on January 17, 2015, 1:59 AM

I agree with . Why not have a small celebration for 25,000 first and then a bigger one for 50,000. It would be a great motivator for all new members. Why not 500 coins for the 25,000th post and maybe 1000 coins for the mega milestone.

agvulpes wrote on January 17, 2015, 5:17 AM

Wow you guys are right on the ball and more kudos to you for letting us know in advance about the updates :)

agvulpes wrote on January 17, 2015, 5:21 AM

Im guessing the post number is the one in the URL (up in the address bar) ie this post is number "20748"
I apologise if I am wrong :)

phoenixmaid wrote on January 17, 2015, 6:52 AM

Nar2Reviews wrote on January 17, 2015, 7:14 AM

Good to see improvements and developments are progressing well.

MaeLou wrote on January 17, 2015, 8:20 AM

Nope, that's correct!

MaeLou wrote on January 17, 2015, 8:24 AM

We've got something a little better in mind for the 50k and being that we are still trying to get some updates and things done, we figured that having it at 50k would give us time to add new features while the members interact and post.

scheng1 wrote on January 17, 2015, 8:50 AM

Not a good contest because it takes good timing, and not effort to be the writer to submit 50000th post. I think it will be better to have a contest that rewards diligence, such as the maximum posts in a given period or a given number of word count.
An article with 400 words is definitely better than an article with 200 words, so a Word Count contest will make more sense.

lucyluuk wrote on January 17, 2015, 9:18 AM

I love the way you guys include the voices of the members here through polls etc and great you keep us updated, here is to more fabulous things in the future emoticon

FreyaYuki wrote on January 17, 2015, 10:13 AM

Thanks for the update. Looking forward to hearing more about the new contest. Sounds interesting emoticon  Can you also look into the spacing issue when writing posts here? For some reason, sometimes, the words end up being smashed together even though it doesn't look like that on the text editor so you have to add extra spaces on the editor just to get it to show up normally on the page. Not sure why this is happening or what's causing it. Thanks for looking into it. emoticon

seren3 wrote on January 17, 2015, 10:51 AM

Thank you for keeping us posted! 50,000 is a good milestone!

Kasman wrote on January 17, 2015, 12:47 PM

MaeLou bestwriter - The number of new members joining Persona Paper is showing signs of slowing down but the daily posting rate has shot up and is holding steady at an average of just over 200 posts per day. If that rate keeps up we will hit the 50,000 mark towards the end of April.

MaeLou wrote on January 17, 2015, 3:26 PM

I think our members should be grateful that we have ANY contest.

MaeLou wrote on January 17, 2015, 3:27 PM

Yeah, Will and I figured that we wouldn't reach it before March - however, there will be posting limitations if I have my way on the winner. It's hard deciding on something that is quite fair to everyone, old and new.

Kasman wrote on January 17, 2015, 3:42 PM

MaeLou - that 200 per day average is since January 1st. It is slowing down slightly and over the past five days has been averaging 150 per day. Because of the different time zones we are in your figures and mine won't agree exactly on a daily basis but over time they should even out.

MaeLou wrote on January 17, 2015, 4:19 PM

Yeah, I've watched our page views drop over the past week. That's fine. I mean, I don't expect everyone to like it here. I have seen a few posts from some of our members saying that they like Bubble Ooze better. Some people don't like change.

Louemham wrote on January 17, 2015, 4:23 PM

Thank you for the update, it's nice to hear what you are working on behind the scenes. I look forward to seeing who will write the magical 50,000th article.

mrsmerlin wrote on January 17, 2015, 5:34 PM

I love how you keep us up to date on developments and respond to what we say. I am really glad about the mobile text part because when I am on my mobile I get easily confused lol

Renda wrote on January 17, 2015, 9:32 PM

It all sounds like good things. Being new here, it makes me feel confident this site will grow into a great place to continue to share. Thanks.

BarbRad wrote on January 17, 2015, 10:42 PM

A new contest sounds like fun. i love the improvements and new features you keep giving us.

Glenn wrote on January 17, 2015, 11:55 PM

This could also be a good indicator that we have good writers on PersonaPaper who only post quality when they have something useful to say. That's better than posting useless things like what someone had for breakfast, as was seen a lot on Bubblews. I am sure Google will also react well to the fact that we have quality posts here.

MaeLou wrote on January 18, 2015, 10:47 AM

Yeah, elitecodex and I were discussing that our members will always likely be fewer since we have such strict guidelines compared to other sites. We're looking for "quality" not "quantity." Someone mentioned on that B site along the lines that maybe the spammers and plagiarizers would come here and leave B alone. So sad they didn't actually check out the site to find out that it just wont happen here.

Donna_Thacker wrote on January 18, 2015, 3:08 PM

Nice to know tht this site is constantly changing and adding great things. The best part is that you keep the community informed. Great job!

Glenn wrote on January 18, 2015, 5:49 PM

Most of the spammers on B couldn't even write English well. So they will never get past the beginning here since you check that they can write their intro bio with decent grammar. In addition, they need to show you that they pay attention and actually answer the questions you ask to be included in the intro bio. The fact that you do this has benefited the site tremendously.

elitecodex Well we just hit 23,000 posts, another milestone reached by the community.

MommyCharm wrote on March 21, 2015, 8:54 PM

50,000 articles? Wow, Persona Paper has gone wild! :) I think I will be writing more articles from now on in the hopes of being the lucky member.
