Birmingham is 'Totally Muslim'; FoxNexsFacts

Apparently, according to FoxNews at any right, Birmingham is 'totally Muslim' and those of us who aren't Muslim are afraid to go there. Apparently, according to Foxnews again, there are Sharia courts in Birmingham and the UK government exercises no sovereignty there. This mythical Birmingham is 'basically a separate country' and 'a country within a country'.

I'd love to know what was going through Steve Emerson's head when he made these completely ridiculous comments about a place he has clearly never stepped foot in whilst declaring himself an expert on one of America's most watched National News Stations. I'd love to know what this source he says he was relying on was, because anyone who's been to Birmingham can tell you it is one of the United Kingdoms multicultural hubs and by no means populated by Muslims, Christians, Jews or for that matter any other religion or nationality alone.

This was supposedly an expert opinion on a National News Station. I'd call it fear mongering and pot stirring of the worst order. To then compound that by stating that parts of London are run by fanatical Muslim police who will beat and wound anyone who doesn't dress according to Muslim attire is downright dangerous. This supposed expert has picked out the two largest cities in the United Kingdom and told every American watching Fox News that they are completely under Muslim control and that non-Muslims don't dare step foot in them.

That's not just a mistake. That's not an error. That's deliberately provoking mass hysteria immediately after a Muslim extremist attack in France. But note the word extremist. The way Steve Emerson has phrased this, Muslims are taking over the world and you dear people are next. But if you speak to the majority of Muslims, they want to live in a peaceful world co-exiting with other religious beliefs and nationalities just as much as the rest of us.

Steve Emerson has made an official apology and it would be easy to laugh this off as a ridiculous mistake. But if you are going to stand on National TV then surely you should have a vague idea of what you're talking about and not just make it up as you go along? And if you are going to make it up as you go along, at the very least ensure that the rubbish you are spouting isn't going to further spur racism and xenophobia.

The original statement would have been seen by millions. The apology probably only thousands. So how many people are left believing this 'expert' that one of the United Kingdom's biggest and thriving cities is a no go area for non-Muslims whilst on the streets of our capital city you will get beaten up if you don't dress according attire?

Perhaps Fox News should stick to the United States in the future.

Your Fox news facts had me laughing but your initial post makes me realize how much power media has in its hands and how much it is abused by channels such as Fox News. It thrives on provoking mass hysteria.

Yep, exactly. I'm not saying that the UK's news channels are necessarily any better on occasion, but at least the main BBC and ITV news tend to be fairly neutral rather than just spewing facts which are likely to provoke panic or hatred for absolutely no reason.

When the story comes from Fox News or the Daily Mail, the chances are it is going to be this kind of sensationalist drivel
