Hello, Arctic

Queen Kitty is currently declaring that she has had great success in her hunting. I don't know if she has captured a catnip mouse for certain, but that seems the most likely prey.

She shall ensure that her humans do not need to venture out into the cold for more supplies. Never fear, we are well-stocked in catnip mice.

Perhaps, too, she is warning the mind-shattering cold that she is a mighty huntress. Maybe, if she is ferocious enough, it will go away and quit trying to freeze us all.

The male cat has staked out a spot under the covers. Unlike the girls, he will simply snuggle up and sleep. Well, he may stretch and accidentally hit me in the mouth with a paw. However, that is nothing compared to what his youngest sister has done to me in the past.

We all keep tabs on the weather. We all shiver just at the sight of the numbers. This human may be a Northerner, but this is not just the North. This is an invasion from the Arctic. There are numbers that are just enough to make one want to stay snuggled all day under the electric blanket and, since it is too freezing to venture out, that is much the plan.

Now, to get those pipes thawed out again for a second time in as many days...

Cold weather and frozen pipes all over it seems. Stay warm and do what those kitties tell you to do!

wolfgirl569 wrote on January 8, 2015, 12:18 PM

Hope your pipes thaw fast and the kitties have the right idea, I wish I could stay in bed also

This is Guiness the Cat. It got down to 9 degrees at my house. It just ain't right!

LilyDay wrote on January 8, 2015, 2:43 PM

I do listen to them most of the time. I know that they have the right idea-- snuggle up in bed with the electric blanket, nap and watch television.

LilyDay wrote on January 8, 2015, 2:45 PM

Last time, it took about a day. I am wondering if I am heating the right spot, since I'm not even seeing the hint of a trickle.

LilyDay wrote on January 8, 2015, 2:46 PM

Guiness, we would have happily taken that temperature last night. My boyfriend keeps saying things about us being in the Arctic, and I am now inclined to agree.

k2705 wrote on January 8, 2015, 3:26 PM

It's cold here but not as cold as where you are by the sound of things.

LilyDay wrote on January 8, 2015, 6:50 PM

Be glad that it isn't quite so wicked where you are. The temperatures that we've been experiencing seem more appropriate for regions much farther to the north than us.

wolfgirl569 wrote on January 8, 2015, 6:54 PM

I hope it starts, I have been getting a trickle for about 4 hours now but thats it

LilyDay wrote on January 8, 2015, 8:17 PM

I still haven't seen even a hint of a trickle yet, and that is worrying me.

wolfgirl569 wrote on January 8, 2015, 8:32 PM

Yea that is after this long. Do you have any water at all? My hot line is frozen but not my cold. If none it could be your pump is frozen

BarbRad wrote on January 9, 2015, 12:15 AM

It only got cold enough for the pipes to freeze one night here, so far. Just reading your post makes me shiver. Hope it warms up for you soon.

LilyDay wrote on January 9, 2015, 10:23 AM

We are still trying to thaw out. It has to be the pipes, but the spot where it is frozen must be really far back where I can't quite get to it. So, we wait...

soupdragon wrote on January 9, 2015, 1:36 PM

It's not so much the cold that is bothering me here as the high winds, which keep me awake at night. They are so noisy and I expect the windows to cave in at any moment.

LilyDay wrote on January 9, 2015, 3:49 PM

I just got part of the pipes thawed out. Unfortunately, there still seems to be an issue elsewhere. So, we now have water in part of the place.

While I like winter, I think I am actually ready for springtime now. Frozen pipes are a misery.

PeggyWds wrote on January 11, 2015, 7:50 PM

This latest arctic blast from the north has had many people staying indoors if possible trying to stay warm.

RuthCox wrote on January 11, 2015, 8:28 PM

You remind me how little I miss the cold of living up north! I would stay snuggled up with the critters too.

melon1234 wrote on January 12, 2015, 2:37 PM

The boy kitty certainly seems like he has the right idea of what to do in the cold weather!

LilyDay wrote on January 13, 2015, 12:52 AM

I try to avoid going out in the worst of it if possible. Unfortunately, it has a bad way of creeping in and freezing up our pipes.

LilyDay wrote on January 13, 2015, 12:54 AM

As unpleasant as the arctic-like temperatures can be, I would never trade it for a warm climate. I spent a year in Florida, and I can say with absolute certainty that I am not meant for such climates.

LilyDay wrote on January 13, 2015, 12:55 AM

He has things fairly well figured out. Of course, he is also the eldest of the trio.

zabelle51 wrote on January 15, 2015, 3:29 PM

This bone chilling weather is getting old for all of us I think. It is very cold here in Connecticut too. :)

LilyDay wrote on January 15, 2015, 5:10 PM

I would be happy just to stay in the 30s for a nice long while. That I don't mind.

Carmelanirel wrote on January 19, 2015, 7:19 PM

I see you posted this on the 8th, have you thawed out by now? We were frozen during that time, but now it is reaching into the upper 40s to lower 50s and I love it.

LilyDay wrote on January 19, 2015, 8:00 PM

We've had another brief round of frozen pipes since then. I think that is going to be a semi-regular occurrence until springtime temperatures come this way.

Dragonfairy1 wrote on January 25, 2015, 5:41 PM

That sounds awfully cold, stay warm. My cat is far too sleepy to catch catnip mice, although if the real thing came by she wold probably make the effort.

LilyDay wrote on January 25, 2015, 5:59 PM

It will likely be up and down in terms of the temperatures for another month or two.

The Fuzzy Trio is not really interested in any mice not containing catnip.

maxeen wrote on January 26, 2015, 1:38 PM

Animals always know best,we should just follow their example.

LilyDay wrote on January 26, 2015, 3:33 PM

That is what the Fuzzy Trio is always telling me. Well, what they say is that "cats know best." Of course, they may be a tad bit biased.

Deelark wrote on January 29, 2015, 5:09 PM

Well all I know is that I am freezing tonight as it's below zero here so I sympathize with you.

LilyDay wrote on January 29, 2015, 7:02 PM

Hopefully, it warms up a bit for you there.

I wouldn't mind the wicked temperatures we frequently have here if we were in a different space. However, this is not a space most conducive to really cold winters.

Down here in New Zealand, where it's summer, I'm enjoying reading about all the snow.
