80 and 94 Years Old, Respectively

Today, January 6th, marks the 80th birthday for my dad. That's the big 8 and 0. Pretty impressive for a man who has never seen a doctor in this country unless it was an emergency.

Dad comes from a full blooded heritage line of Spaniards in the district of Barcelona. His grandparents were from Cataluna. It's a small town/village there. However, dad was born in Cuba so that mixes up a bit family tree.

Dad is what you call one hell of a do it yourself outdoor type of person who has always worked hard. He is a painter by trade. However, dad is more of a jack of all trades. Even if he doesn't know how to work on something, he will get a book and figure it out rather than ask for help. I am like him. I am very independent and figure things out on my own.

What makes me real proud of my dad is his ability to draw. He was offered a contract with Walt Disney back in the 1970's but he turned them down! He is that good.

A man that didn't have much schooling, he is very intelligent and wise.

He is also a part of a historical event. When the revolution was occurring in Cuba and masses of citizens began to leave, my dad, along with a wife and six children boarded a plane for Miami, Florida. A few years later, I was born here a U.S citizen.

Dad now has great, great, great, great grandchildren! I hope he lives long enough to see another generation.

On another note, I found out that my mother's mom had her birthday back on September 19 of 2014. My grandmother is now 94 years old! I was able to see a recent picture of her from a cousin of mine and boy does she still look good for her age.

I can only hope that I will be able to live as long as my dad and grandmother.

Would love to see some of your Dad's drawings. Nice to be proud of our parents. It says a lot.

I live far from him. I don't have access to his work.
