Introducing The Dude

I have two rescued cats. One is Brendel. I wrote about her recently. And now I introduce The Dude. He is the first black cat I have ever had. Did you know black cats are the least adoptable cats? Sadly mostly due to all the untrue things said about how they are bad luck, etc. The Dude is the most laid back teddy bear of a cat I have ever had. Was not sure how Brendel would accept him at first. It is taking awhile for them to get adjusted to each other. But he has such a laid back personality that is how he has survived for almost a year now.

I make sure Brendel knows she is still the queen. And the Dude gladly takes second chair. He is just glad to be here and out of the cage at the shelter. He is spoiled as well.

The Dude is a big talker and sits at the window to carry on conversations with the backyard birds.

We adopted a black cat that ended up being a total nightmare. I'm sure you'll have better luck with The Dude.

He doesn't look too thrilled getting his picture taken! lol Both of our cats are black, we didn't adopt them, but rescued them in a thunderstorm, momma cat abandoned them behind an air conditioner near our apartment, poor things were only about 4 to 5 weeks old at the time.

I like black cats. His eyes are very pretty. I'm glad you gave him a good home.

This is Guiness the Cat. What a handsome fellow! He looks like a pretty kitty I've seen in the mirror. He sometimes gets called Dude, too. ("Dude. What are you doing?" "Dude. Where do you think you are going?" "Dude. Move." Poor Dude.)

Oh no that is not good. We have had this one almost one year and he seems fine. Fingers crossed.

Cats are like that. They want to tell you what to do! I was lucky to get this close to him. Good for you for rescuing.

I have always liked them as well but for some reason never had one. He is a cool Dude!

Thanks. He is a handsome dude for sure. And his coat is so soft like a teddy bear. Funny, I understand about the Dude names. :)

apparently they have become even harder to find homes for since instagram and fb got so popular because they are so much harder to photograph. which seems really sad to me. I had a beautiful black cat who was a delight to have in as a pet. i was so lucky she adopted us.

Good to see you and the dude over here.

Thanks and it is good to be here in this friendly community!

Yes indeed. There is something very special about his personality. He is a keeper for sure.

He is a handsome boy. Black cats are such beautiful kitties.

This is Guiness the Cat again. Debbi wants to know if Dude turns into a Big Black Blob in pictures if you can't see his eyes. Ignore her. And I do NOT turn into a Big Black Blob. I don't care what she says.

I am partial to black cats. The only cat we ever owned was Moses, whom we got as a black kitten. He died shortly after my son did.

Dude is a beauty of a cat! I love cats but I always seem to end up with dogs that do not. Maybe one of these days I'll get it right! You are correct about the black cats and it is the same for dogs as to adoption. Makes no sense to me!
