Why Do Insurance Companies Take So Long To Pay

My husbands work truck was stolen out of our driveway two weeks before Christmas and was found one day later by police, but all the tools were missing. My husbands bosses insurance will cover some of the loss but they are waiting forever to issue a check for the missing items. It's been over one month and we still haven't heard a word from them and they won't return any phone calls or keep my husband updated about the status of his claim. Is this normal behavior for Insurance Companies to take so long and not have communication with their customers? It seems really unprofessional to me and doesn't make them look good. I've never had to deal with an I nsurance Company before so I don't know what a typical wait time is to process claims. In the meantime, hubby is borrowing tools so he can keep earning money . We need to move into a safer neighborhood to prevent this from happening again, our neighborhood is really bad but this is what we could afford at the time. Our credit isn't good either so it's going to be tough getting into another house. I just hope that things will get better for us from this day forward.

Unfortunately insurance companies are not in the business to actually pay out money, they are there to make money so will drag their feet as long as possible :( Hope they come thru soon.

They always wait to pay. Your husband could consider filing a claim for lost wages too. If he has. Or threaten to get an attorney. Sometimes that moves them along.

Yes it is normal after a wreck with hubbies truck the insurance company was ignoring me until I left a message saying I would be getting an attorney. They started moving things along pretty fast then.

This would obviously vary from company to company and on the one occasion that I had a claim it was dealt with quite efficiently.

I agree in total with you. My car met an accident and was totally written off. Initially the insurance company was reluctant to declare it a total loss - then after lot of persuasion it was declared so. But they are still lingering on with the payment. I wonder why? I pray your losses are made good at an early dat

Insurance companies believe that EVERYONE is out to defraud them. I would love to pay my homeowner's insurance the same way that my insurance company paid a hail storm damage claim from three years ago: after about 11 months, then half of what was owed. Of course, they wouldn't stand for being paid the way they pay. Worse, there's no way of knowing exactly how your premiums are calculated. Talk about a scam!

Wow, that's a really long time to wait for money that's owed to you. It's very unfortunate that you had to wait so long to be paid. They are a rip off they expect us to pay on time every month and then go against helping their own members.

Have you tried calling them at all to see what the problems is? Maybe they forgot about it altogether or the paperwork got misplaced. I hope you get your answers soon too!

I'm glad that you had a good experience. I wish the process of getting paid was a lot simpler then it is.

Oh, that's a great idea! If they take another month I will tell my husband that he needs to do that also.

yes wolfgirl569 said the same thing, it's such a good idea I will definitely tell my husband to do that!

Yeah I figured that out, and I hope they will too. Thank you!

They have to do so much investigating !! Ha ha- it is just all delaying tactics I fear
FancyFree74 wrote on January 6, 2015, 2:49 PM
Well they are really good at making people wait. It reminds me of one of the other websites I blog at!

In my country is the same situation. Insurance companies try to delay and avoid payments.

How frustrating. I hope they get a move on. It's totally unprofessional not to be returning your calls. I hope you have some better luck soon.

Back when I had my Honda totaled from a driver who ran a red light, it took less than a month for me to receive my check. It is about knowing your rights and responsibilities. Without my car, I was not able to go to work. I put pressure on the company and called almost daily because I was receiving several different documents in the mail. I knew who to talk to and was assertive. Eventually my dad gave up his car to me so that I would not lose my job.

Wow that's pretty quick to receive a check I'm glad they were so quick to act in your situation. My husbands hands are tied because it's his boss that has to deal with the insurance and he says he's tried to call them but they never responded back. That was very nice of your dad to help you out like that you are very blessed.

yeah it is but that's life, if it's not one thing going on in it's another.
Thank you for your concern!

I think that there should be a board who oversees insurance companies. Heck, there should be a top government that oversees our government too!

Ugh, I loathe insurance companies. I think most of them are shady. But that's just my opinion. Hope it all gets worked out soon!
