Our Ringless Engagement

I've been engaged for a little bit over three months. Will proposed to me before our anniversary on October 1st but I don't remember the exact date. We were playing World of Warcraft and I was getting antsy. I just wanted to go kill things but Will was trying to figure something out in his head. Suddenly, he said, "I have something for you" Okay? We've traded things before with far less ceremony. His trade offer was a solitaire diamond ring with the description "Will you marry me?" I thought he was just being cute until he started to tell me how he tried to find a family ring to give me but that's okay too because we'll just go ring shopping together and find the perfect one. I was stunned. Then I cried which made him cry.

I did eventually find a ring at a little shop downtown. At first, I was beyond excited. As time progressed, I found that the lady who was supposed to be helping me design a ring was simply too busy for me. Every time I emailed her about progress, I was told that she hadn't gotten around to it yet and to give her another week. This went on for about a month and a half. Then I went to talk to her face-to-face. She still had nothing done for me but I asked her, again, when she'd be able to at least send me something. By the end of the week was her answer. At the end of that week, I emailed her and told her that if I didn't have results by the end of the day that we'd be taking our business elsewhere. In the fastest response I had ever gotten from her, she told me that she couldn't produce quality work within my time-frame and wished me the best of luck and it was nice to meet us, etc.

We found this wonderful jeweler from Ohio that does amazing things with rings. Even though it will undoubtedly be more expensive, I'm much happier giving our money to an artisan that puts his love, sweat and tears into every piece rather than a huge corporation. Or even a small business that doesn't know how to treat customers.

That's a shame that she didn't have time to do what you wanted. At least you have found someone who cares.

Sorry you had that experience with the designer! My husband and I went out to get the ring together, as well. It always mystifies me how a man can possibly surprise a woman with a ring--how does he know her ring size, and how would he find out without letting on? Congratulations, by the way! :)

Congratulations! How silly of this woman to lose your business that way. And keeping you waiting for so long.
