To Drink Or Not To Drink Water

Okay, I am at crossroads here.

Should I or shouldn't I drink water after a meal?

Two separate studies seem to support drinking and not drinking water after a meal.

The research supporting drinking of water after a meal suggests that water helps food mix in the stomach with enzymes and all other factors involved.

The research against drinking of water immediately after a meal suggests that water affects the balance of digestive enzymes and chemicals alike Hydrochloric acid.

Well, these two studies have left me at crossroads and I guess I will just do what I always do. I always drink water after ameal and I thinkI will continue with this trend.

How about you? Do you drink water immediately after meals ?

I use to drink a lot of water before and after meal. However, I know it's healthy. Isn't it???

It depends which studies you read. Apparently, it's better to drink water before a meal, as it helps you feel fuller, quicker. I think as long as you're drinking water, it doesn't really matter

I like a drink with my meals, not after - but it isn't usually water, it's more likely to be a soft drink.

I drink water with my meal and most of the day as I go along.

maramadalina - be careful with drinking lots of water. There is something called 'water intoxication' which can be fatal! Read this: http://goo.gl/cFVKga

constantdementia I don't usually drink water after a meal, but I do drink water (with lime) throughtout the day. Sometimes I drink water with my meals, but not too often. Still consuming water in recommended amounts is healthy. As per the studies, I would validate the date, instititution, sample size, etc. just to get a feeling of which one has been done more rigorously.

Yes, liters not gallons of water is the recommended amount, have not seen the video but I learned about that case of a woman that died from water intoxication trying to win a contest from a local radio sation in California.

I am always weary of studies and like to look at who is funding them before taking what they seriously. personally I drink it with my meal it helps break the food down making it easier for him to digest.

I drink water with my meal. I have no idea if that is good or bad LOL. I've always been one to drink water throughout the day. I think the important thing is to stay hydrated.

Kasman What? I didn't know it. Thanks for info. I'll try to reduce it.

maramadalina - it's not normally a problem. Just don't overdo the water intake!

If we follow researchers, we will stop breathing. I just drink water as and when I need it. After a meal if I so desire, or if I don't desire, I drink it later. I really don't place much credence on their words. It is always changing and one research contradicts the other.

I read somewhere that you should drink water before eating, but I think that's more to do with dieting than whether or not its healthy (but surely its healthy???

Drinking water BEFORE eating will help your appetite. After will help wash things out of your system.
