Monday Will Be a Big Day for Me

After being confined to where my feet can take me for a month, I will be making a car trip for the first time tomorrow since since my neck surgery, for two medical appointments – the only excuse for getting into a car good enough for my surgeon. I will, of course, milk it for all it's worth.

I first have to have a neck X-ray in Templeton early enough for my surgeon to get the results before I see him at 3:15. Since I'm supposed to avoid being in the car very much, I thought we should have lunch in Atascadero or San Luis Obispo on the way to the appointment. We normally eat at Hometown Buffet, but I'm wondering if there's more risk of catching the flu there than somewhere else. I don't need the flu. After we go to the doctor, unless he forbids it, we will go do our Costco shopping, since it's in the same city, which is 30 miles from home. We don't like to waste gasoline.

Considering I haven't gone anywhere except for walks in weeks, I'm sure I will get pretty tired before I get home. I may not be able to get on the computer for very long. I may choose to collapse with a book, though Hubby will probably want to watch TV and the two activities aren't compatible in the same room. I'm hoping the doctor will say my neck is healing as expected and I just need to keep it up. I'm hoping he may lift some of the restrictions on my activities. But I'll just have to wait and see. I will let you all know how it goes. Meanwhile, I'm scared to death of being in an accident or going over a rough road that could injure my delicate neck before it heals. The vibration of the car is not good for it, and some of our highways we need to take are somewhat rough.

Take it carefully and don't try to do too much. It is best to do a little at a time and give up if it tires you.

I am not sure if my advice is right but how about sitting where there are no wheels as I feel those bumps one gets if one sits where the wheels are. You can laugh at this advice. You have my permission (lol)
Don't worry. You have gone this far. You need a few more steps and all this will be history with a new beginning. I wish you the best. BarbRad

i'm not your doctor but i'd say take an ounce of care.

All the best for your x-ray and doctor's visit.

Madcanman wrote on January 5, 2015, 5:27 AM

Just do the best you can, Barb. Good luck with your appointment and your shopping, too.

Follow what the doctor says. It will surely good for your health. Shopping can wait.

My husband is also a TV person. I have to do my reading in bed. Have a nice trip!

There's always some fun thing we get to experience as we get older. I see a physical therapist and get to do exercises I would have said (as a kid) were girl-type exercises.

I am hoping for good news all the way around for you. Tell the husband he is not allowed to hit any potholes along your way!

wolfgirl569 wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:56 AM

Be careful and I hope all goes well for you. Make sure you get as much rest as you can after. We will be here when you feel better.

Like the collar - are you allowed to draw pictures on it? Seriously, it sounds pretty serious. Hope you get well soon.

I hope your big day out goes well. I can read while the TV is on n and completely block it out. What can't do is convince my husband not o talk to me about the show!

Hopefully, you get good news at your appointment today.

I hope the travel all goes well for you and that things are moving along nicely healing wise. We do the same thing about gas. I always try to map out our route to save time and get everything done that we can.

This is Guiness the Cat. I do not like riding in scary cars at all! If you don't want to ride to your appointment, I'll run over there and we'll take a nice long walk together. Then you can buy me dinner (seafood will be nice, but so would beef), and buy me big bags of treats at Costco. I'm sure we'll have a very good time. Be careful and stay safe.

You should perhaos consider taking a cushion or pillow with you to pack behind your neck. I rarely travel long distance without an inflatable neck pillow or at the very least a scarf. Be careful and be kind to your joints. You only have one set, and the last I heard, neck joints were not replaceable.

Easier said then done.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:35 PM

Thanks.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:36 PM

They went pretty well.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:37 PM

He eased my restrictions.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:37 PM

Thank you. All is well.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:38 PM

Thank you.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:39 PM

We got it all done.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:40 PM

I can't read in bed because it's not good for the neck.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:42 PM

I hate exercises, but the ones I have to do now aren't too bad.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:43 PM

You can be sure I gave him specific instructions on that.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:44 PM

I'm tired but got through it.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:45 PM

I"m definitely on the mend.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:46 PM

I can't read if there are any words being spoken. I can relate to your last statement.

Brenda wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:50 PM

Bless your heart I hope your trip is a good one with smooth not bumpy roads. I know what it is like to be confined to home for months on end. I was with both my knee surgeries. Not now. And soon neither will you.
We shop at Costco too. Its a 3 hour trip but it is what it is.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:51 PM

Thanks. I did.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:52 PM

I accomplished a lot, but I'm exhausted.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:53 PM

Guiness, I can't find any treats at Costco. Only for dogs. It's not right.

BarbRad wrote on January 5, 2015, 9:55 PM

Actually, something was replaced there. I have cadaver bone tissue implants that will help my own bone grow back. Or something like that.

BarbRad wrote on January 6, 2015, 12:48 AM

And I thought my thirty minute trip was bad. It used to be an hour. I keep hoping they will build one in the north county where I am.

zebra2222 wrote on January 7, 2015, 1:55 AM

I hope all goes well and take it easy. Don't overdo it.

BarbRad wrote on January 7, 2015, 9:21 PM

Thanks. I did make it though OK, but tired.

WordChazer wrote on January 8, 2015, 10:53 AM

OK, so I learned something today! Thanks for that. Guess I need to spend more time with my transplant colleagues to learn which bits of the human body are replaceable these days.
