My Hometown Was Mentioned In The New York Times

I was really excited yesterday to learn that the New York Times did a great article on music history in Appalachia and mentioned my home town and surrounding area in it. Bluegrass music has a long history in the Appalachian Mountains and is a huge part of culture there. Songs passed down from generation to generation tell the stories of people who lived in those mountains long before there were roads and modern conveniences. There is a beauty to be found in the history of the music of our mountain ancestors.

The Times really wrote a nice piece about this part of our history. My home town of Elizabethton, TN has a small restaurant where local musicians can come and play old time bluegrass music. When I was last there a man who played banjo professionally was there and I really enjoyed his skills as a musician. I've always loved a good banjo player and this man in his 70s could beautifully.

My musician husband is a Bluegrass fan and has taken me to local live concerts where I have been enchanted by the harmonies! Don't know whether they can be counted, but I've always loved the Everly Brothers...

I have too. I was lucky to grow up in an area where there was always plenty of local bands in that genre around.

It is a pretty neat thing. My town is pretty small so it's neat to get in a big named paper.

I'm not sure if they are bluegrass but they are country. They have a great sound to them and I enjoy their music. Live bluegrass concerts are great. I sometimes watch old live performances on youtube.

Hey, good to see you too! Bluegrass is something that originated where I live in the Appalachian mountains. It's like folk music. I recommend looking it up. It's very unique. I love old music as well. I always have.

I enjoy it mainly because it reminds me of home. I haven't lived in my mountains for so long that the music of my hometown helps me be less homesick.
