Are You a Former MyLot or Gather Member?

Many of us have been together a long time, since we've known each other from other sites. Two of these sites were and , each of which has transformed into something very different than the site was when we were active there. Both those sites changed form around the same time, and Gather was even down for months before coming back a totally different entity. As a result of these changes, many of us migrated to that promising new site called . The word kept spreading about the new site that had unbelievable pay rates. And it was true. We dug in and made good money, in spite of the naysayers who said it could never last, that it wasn't sustainable. But they were there, too, milking it while they could, and so was I, always knowing that I'd been warned it couldn't last forever. Almost from the beginning some people were complaining that their weren't honored, and most of us figured it was because they had broken the rules, and most of them had.

Then some of my friends started complaining they hadn't been paid, some of the same friends who had warned me before I joined. Finally the day came when one of my own redemptions wasn't paid. That happened, I rationalized, because of a glitch on the site, but my email about it was never answered. I kept writing and never missed another payment. But some close bubbling friends had. They were owed big time, and I knew they weren't cheaters. The latest changes, constantly changing terms that affected pay already earned, showed me it was time to leave, not just because of the lower pay, but because I had lost any trust I had had in the site administrators. So I wrote the swan song many of you have read and tried to contact some special friends to say goodbye and tell them about Persona Paper and tsu so we could still find each other and stay in touch. I think another great migration has begun as people saw their promised earning cut in half overnight.

One of those people coming over from the other site is someone many of you know as Carmelanirel and she is hoping to connect with former friends from myLot. If you are one of those friends, I hope you will drop by her profile here to say hello so she can connect with you. If you are from either myLot or Gather, please let us know in the comments below, along with your old user name, so that new friends coming to read this can find you. I'm not sure I've found all my former myLot friends myself, since I used the name bagarad there, and I've never used it anywhere else. Many other people may be here under different names our friends may not recognize, as well. So please help your former friends on other sites find you.

We have all found Persona Paper to be a friendly and welcoming community, so let's give that same warm welcome we received to some of the newcomers on the members list and give them all the help we can as they get acquainted and start making friends, even if you don't know them yet. We don't want anyone to feel lost or lonely. This is a great chance to make delightful new Persona Paper friends.

I was at each of those (under a different user name), and I was one who migrated to Bubblews around the time they fell into ruin.

maxeen wrote on January 2, 2015, 3:05 PM

That was the way they played it ,divide and rule. Pay you so you won't believe the complainers.

Carmelanirel wrote on January 2, 2015, 3:10 PM

Woo! I am so happy to be here, though I am quite new and still learning how this site works. I am hoping another writer friend will join who was from MyLot and is also not happy to have lost 20 dollars to Bubblews.

Katherina201 wrote on January 2, 2015, 3:16 PM

I was on Gather. I really enjoyed it there. People were very friendly and helpful. I feel much the same way here.

zombiecupcake wrote on January 2, 2015, 3:47 PM

I was at both, but on myLot a lot more. It's where I met my fiance! :) We now have two kids. Anyway, my username was LookItsACupcake on myLot. I wasn't very active at Gather and didn't make any friends there.

BarbRad Well, I think lots of us did come from MyLot and Gather. I used to really like MyLot. But Gather was always a pain. Bubblews was great now it's okay. But as I said, I will be here more. And I will connect with my old time MyLot members. But I will remain there until I see what happens. As for the copy-cat sites to Bubblews, I am not sure. They are disgruntled Bubblews members, most likely the ones that scammed them, that started those sites. So, I go there and tread lightly. There are not many sites that we can put our all into anymore. I will remain with the following sites, Bubblews, Persona Paper, ChatAbout and TSU. I am inertia4 on every one of them.

I was of course a bubbler too. I didn't know about any others except here. And I am so ever glad I signed up here.

I was a latecomer to writing online. I wish I had discovered it sooner. Not counting my first blog, the Yahoo Content Network was my first site, then Squidoo, then Bubblews, then two more blogs, and Persona Paper, then Tsu--which isn't a writing site, but it's a great place to interact with other writers. I'm really enjoying getting reconnected to friends I made at Bubblews that I lost contact with either as they quit posting or when the new website put us out of contact.

simplysara wrote on January 2, 2015, 5:15 PM

Yes, I have frequented all of the sites you mentioned. I am still hopeful that Bubblews is here to stay. Obviously I am checking out Persona Paper too just in case!

I was never on mylot. But I already read a post by your friend you mentioned above. I have been from Squidoo to Bubblews thanks to Jennifer of One Week Marketing. We are all so linked!

iRun wrote on January 2, 2015, 9:54 PM

I was MommyBoo over at Mylot and surely loved that place. I just found this place through a well-timed post I read on Bubblews. I'm also looking to reconnect with old friends from MyLot and of course to enjoy what appears to be a promising and positive new environment here!

I joined Tsu on November 2nd and just hit $4.99 today. Like you, I am picky about friends and followers. In fact, I plan to go through and delete a few who do not engage in discussions at all. Likes do not impress me a bit unless accompanied by an on-topic or quality comment.

BarbRad wrote on January 2, 2015, 11:27 PM

I think that was a really large migration.

BarbRad wrote on January 2, 2015, 11:30 PM

It worked, since there had been some scammers who didn't deserve to be paid. But when I saw the people I knew were honest being messed with, I began to believe the site might really be in trouble. One redemption missing when I'd already made more than on any other site, was disappointing, but not enough to make me leave. What's happening now has broken my trust.

BarbRad wrote on January 2, 2015, 11:31 PM

There's just something not right about fulfilling your end of the bargain and not having the other party fulfill their part of it. I hope your friend will join.

BarbRad wrote on January 2, 2015, 11:32 PM

I liked Gather except for one thing - the repetitive one-word comments.

BarbRad wrote on January 2, 2015, 11:34 PM

I don't think we were connected at myLot. It was a big place, and I didn't meet everyone.

BarbRad wrote on January 2, 2015, 11:36 PM

I"d like to get back to Chatabout but I can't get into it since my last cash out. Can't find my old password. There is no response when I ask to have it reset.

BarbRad wrote on January 2, 2015, 11:36 PM

We're glad you signed up, too.

BarbRad wrote on January 2, 2015, 11:39 PM

Gather and myLot weren't typical writing sites. They involved writing and being rewarded for interaction, but there weren't any minimum character or word rules and you could just post a photo on Gather if you wanted. MyLot paid you for writing, but not for views.

BarbRad wrote on January 2, 2015, 11:42 PM

Wouldn't hurt to make some posts fairly regularly to keep in the loop here. Keep your eggs in several baskets to avoid trouble if the basket with the most eggs disappears. We were pretty shocked when Squidoo folded, but at least they gave us a life raft and enough notice for people to save their work.

BarbRad wrote on January 2, 2015, 11:43 PM

That's what networking is all about -- keeping us linked.

BarbRad wrote on January 2, 2015, 11:45 PM

Once you get settled in and are active here you will see that back and forth conversation is as easy as it was at myLot and there will be regulars you always want to read.

BarbRad wrote on January 2, 2015, 11:48 PM

You're a very busy lady there. I've been there since November 21 and I'm nowhere near that.

iRun wrote on January 2, 2015, 11:48 PM

Excellent! That is exactly what I have been missing. I have a few people to send this way too who I used to enjoy posting with there.

PattyTherre wrote on January 3, 2015, 3:10 AM

Oh man, I used to be at MyLot! That was ages ago. It was funky there but fun. I think that was the very first time I ever ventured into making pennies for content. Then it went crazy and I left long ago. I was with Epinions for a decade or more so I really wasn't looking for more things to do but found the big B through friends and then discovered all sorts of sites like this one. Fun stuff.

Gina145 wrote on January 3, 2015, 8:34 AM

I was never at MyLot or Gather, but I can understand the feeling of trying to keep track of old friends. That's one of the reasons I've still been visiting Bubblews even though I don't plan to write there any more.

dd-das wrote on January 3, 2015, 1:23 PM

I am still a member of Mylot but I rarely log in now.

RuthCox wrote on January 3, 2015, 3:21 PM

Oh, by the way, you and I first met online on the Gather community, years ago. Writers sure do make the rounds, don't we?!

VinceSummers wrote on January 3, 2015, 3:50 PM

They always paid me faithfully, but the time came for me as well. If they'd been above board from Day 1, I'd probably still write there regularly. Right now I'm writing just a minimum to be sure my account isn't closed due to inactivity. I don't want to burn my bridge, just in case they successfully regroup.

BarbRad wrote on January 3, 2015, 7:46 PM

We sure do. And I first heard about Gather from people on Squidoo. Now they are both gone.

BarbRad wrote on January 3, 2015, 7:47 PM

I didn't know you were at myLot. Who were you there?

BarbRad wrote on January 3, 2015, 7:49 PM

At least the Internet is big enough so that if we lose contact at one site we can still find each other at another.

BarbRad wrote on January 3, 2015, 7:51 PM

I'm tempted to go back and see who's still there.

BarbRad wrote on January 3, 2015, 7:52 PM

You're probably wiser than I have been.

VinceSummers wrote on January 3, 2015, 8:02 PM

I don't know that I'd go that far. Earlier I quit Bubblews. I posted an article and said Good-Bye and told them they resembled the critter in the photo I'd posted - a SKUNK.

inertia4 wrote on January 3, 2015, 9:01 PM

BarbRad Thats strange. I never had a problem with them before. The admins there are very nice. I am making good money there with them. I haven't been on in a few days due to the holidays. But I will be there tomorrow. And hopefully every day form that point on. If you have their email, at least Brent's email, try emailing him again. I would love to see you back there.

BarbRad wrote on January 4, 2015, 12:16 AM

And you went back?

Gina145 wrote on January 4, 2015, 4:41 AM

That's true. Unfortunately I need to visit more than one site to keep up with everyone I want to keep contact with.

Carmelanirel wrote on January 4, 2015, 7:56 AM

I don't know, I am sure there is a link to check, but I have to leave soon, my daughter has four dogs today, so I won't be here for a while.

VinceSummers wrote on January 4, 2015, 8:37 AM

Yes. They had started doing better and I figured I'd give it a shot. It did fine for the better part of a year.
