New Year Changes…Can You Hear the Moans and Groans?

I just happened to check notifications and caught elitecodex’s post as soon as it went up. Persona Paper is implementing a few changes on January 1st. I have hyperlinked the post so you can go read it for yourself if you haven’t yet.

First thing you are going to notice is that the increase in the coin exchange is not as much as had been discussed. So, before you moan and groan…look at it as at least it is a bit of an increase and they appear to be trying! They are doing the best they can that is financially viable for the site. So, something is better than nothing, right?

Next folks are going to complain about the payout increase from $5 to $20. What’s the big deal? It’s only 15 bucks and truly, with the slight pay increase and just a tiny bit more effort, we can easily do it. Besides, in this day and age, $5 bucks ain’t gonna get ya much! I’d rather wait for $20.

So, before any comments or complaints start flying, think about it long and hard. A slow steady increase in pay that may help the site stay strong and last is way better than them jumping in and paying money they can’t afford and then go belly up.

Stability is the key word here! I would rather see this site stay stable so that I could keep writing here instead of complaining about the loss of such a tiny raise in the exchange rate coins. Personally, I think elitecodex and MaeLou have made a decision that will eventually benefit all of us.

I agree, although I may have a slightly biased opinion ;)

Writers have to take whats best for the site into consideration as well as their own desires. The site needs to stay viable for the writer to be able to post. It's a two way street...

Yes, slow and steady wins the race, true since Aesop's time.

I have plans to post here more often in the coming year. I hope they work out.

Donna_Thacker The fact that they are not sugar coating the not-so-good-news and are working hard to move this community forward, by increasing the exchange rate shows that we need to continue supporting their efforts. I do agree with your view, their decisions will benefit the site in the end, but there is always room for opinions and suggestions (which is anothe great thing about Persona Paper) . I have already expressed my thoughts to elitecodex .

Oh I agree nbaquero opinions and suggestions are great. I am in many forums and hear people moaning and groaning about sites all the time without giving site admins a chance. Some just want what is best for them and it can't always be that a way...at least here PP is trying hard to be fair!

I absolutely agree, they have definitely made the right decision. We have seen what happens when a certain other site set its rates too high, then couldn't afford the payouts. That wont happen here because elitecodex and maelou are on top of things and only increasing the exchange rate to what they can be sure they can afford to increase it to. With the exchange rate from USD to GBP I couldn't buy much with $5 at all so I have been letting mine mount up anyway so I have no issue with the higher threshold and its still lower than most other writing sites.

I think this will encourage people to participate more here and hopefully we will get some new members as well - in turn ad revenue will increase and (hopefully) the exchange rate will be able to increase again in the not too distant future.

Yes, I think it is a wise decision they have made and it will only help the site grow the right way. Sometimes rapid growth and fast payouts ends up a disaster...as we have seen on other sites. I hope it does encourage new members or even old ones to post more. Quality writing is the key to helping a site grow!

I am so happy about having admin who actually think through all the options and consequences in advance. I think they have made a lot of smart choices that will help Persona Paper prosper in the long run. I can't wait to get back into a regular routine after the first of the year.

I hope that with minimum payout people would put more effort and publish more content. But you are right, cashing out once at 20$ or four time at 5$ is not a big deal!

I'm good with it--it is similar to what I suggested, anyway, so I'm biased, as well :D

Here here! I completely agree - we should go for stability before we go for short-term profit.

Ruby3881 wrote on December 29, 2014, 12:09 AM

Anyone who groans should be reminded that some sites are making us wait till we have $50 or even $100! And on some sites it takes 30-90 days, to receive payment through what should be an instant payment method...

Donna_Thacker Yes, they are really trying hard to make this site (and the community) better. I am glad I am part of PP.

I am excited for the new changes. I hope it is not a "big change". LOL.

Oh yes, I'm all for whatever makes the best sense of the sustainability of Persona Paper. This is one site, one community that I would like to see thrive for the long haul. I enjoy both my experiences here as a writer and as a member.

I have to agree that stability is better, and right now this is the ONLY site like this that is still live I have found. It was a happy accident that I found Persona Paper. I do want to ask why the payout was changed though. I joined let's see, 2 days ago. I have no previous experience with knowing how long and how much activity adds up here. Having a lower payout is (in my opinion) better incentive, especially for newbies who may have been burned other places. It's not likely to change my behavior here because I really like this site, all I'm saying is that I feel a bump from $5 to $20 was a lot, and $10 would have been preferable. Any words on why the bump had to be $20, elitecodex ? Just an honest question, it's not a gripe.
