Going Southwest

Shown in this picture is the national road going up to the southwestern part of my province. Its loaded with blind curves and is accident prone though the condition of the road is good. Big commercial passenger buses regularly ply or "fly" through this route from the southwestern towns to Cebu City and back every day. Accidents involving buses or private vehicles and pedestrians happen causing damage to properties and lives.

This used to be a bumpy, dusty road to travel. Thanks to our government for the improvements. Now there is so much economic developments in the once sleepy southwestern towns of Cebu Province including my home town Barili, Cebu.

I hope that the attitude of the drivers can change, so that accidents will not happen.

i think its the pressure to earn more thats pushing these drivers to exceed speed limits and risk their lives and the lives of their passengers.

It is the same here. They are paid by per trip, so they want to make more money by making more trips.

There is a joke in our place that when roads were paved, more accidents happened because transportation now moves faster. When it roads were still rough and dusty, accidents were few because vehicles move slowly.

I hate the big wagons on all the roads, there should be more railways to transport goods.

carmela It seems that the same driving maladies affect bus drivers all over the world, in my home country they do the same.
