My Filipino Christmas

My Filipino Christmas
(written 12/04/2014)
By Sheila Noreen L. Gamo
Every Filipino from all over the world would agree
that the Philippines is the perfect place to be,
if you wish to have the best Christmas ever
Come back home to Pinas and remember
As soon as the months end in “Ber.”
Christmas songs start to fill the air
The night becomes ever brighter
As every home's Christmas lights flicker
Waiting for friends at the Sari-sari store
The colorful parols at every house door
The Sorbetero's joyful bell
That jeepney sound we know so well
The cold night air as we pray together
The hot tea and bibingka when Misa De Gallo is over
Our favorite Puto bumbong and a bottle of Coke
as my friends and I each laugh and share a joke
And as we all gather at the table to eat
What mother has cooked for noche buena feast
The Coca-cola fizzles along with happy chatter
That joyful noise of endless laughter
The smiles coming from family and friends
Love and forgiveness as enemies make amends
The feeling of being home, a place to belong
Where your heart is at peace and nothing can go wrong
This is the Christmas every Filipino knows
where sharing, caring and understanding grows
Where neighbors and colleagues are brothers too
A Christmas that celebrates Jesus' love so true.

Ruby came to visit our country just a few days before Christmas ... i just hope that my fellow Filipinos who lost their homes or lost a loved one will still be able to celebrate with their families this Christmas.

We Filipinos are very resilient people. I am sure they will find a way to still celebrate Christmas
