Why Do People Avoid Writing Controversial Post or Articles?

I have been on a few writing sites and I must say it's hard to find a controversial post. People seem to avoid talking about politics and religion for a start. There is nothing like a good debate, but I think some people maybe can't handle debate so they shy away from writing controversial posts.

I want to know other peoples' views on such topics. I like to have a good old debate. What happens often of course, is that someone takes offence and then a tiny war commences. It shouldn't be like that but it sometimes is. If everyone accepted that each person is allowed to have an opinion all would be well. The trouble is that sometimes the person who writes the post wants everyone to agree with his/her opinion. It doesn't work like that.

I hope I will see some meaty topics discussed on Persona Paper as I have an opinion on most things - don't you?

Over the years I have learned to stay away from really controversial topics, its just not worth the arguments that follow. Some people just don't do civil debate, and the internet is full of them unfortunately.

It's a shame it really is. I am interested in what other people think about hot issues.

You should read some of the posts LoudMan writes. He is not shy about expressing his opinion!

We get enough of those unpleasant debates in real life and so why bring them here? (lol). Having said that, yes, if members do not take anything personally nothing like having a debate here too, now and then. So what's holding you? :)

Hey, thanks! :) I'm not. I'm really not.

Oh, I've done several. Often, all I encounter are whiney-babies who don't want their world-view shook up. So, we you invite others to post on controversial topics, remember, there are whiners and criers out there who will try to get others removed over it.

I think the lack of interest is the main reason. Most people just are not interested enough in either topic.

Um, yes.... He's quite aptly named! But having known him for some years now, I can say he's actually got far fewer rough edges than he used to :)

Ruby3881 wrote on December 4, 2014, 4:54 AM

I think you are right about the lack of interest. A lot of people are too lazy to put in the effort unless it's a topic of great emotion for them.

I write on a number of sites, and I will say I've definitely written (and responded to) posts on a good number of controversial subjects. i won't shy away from debate :)

LoudMan wrote on December 4, 2014, 8:59 AM

I've developed a few edges I keep secret any more, until they're needed offline. :)

LoudMan wrote on December 4, 2014, 9:01 AM

Why not post one or two of your own? :)

LoudMan will be your man for controversial topics. You should write a topic or two of your own to start the ball rolling. I tend to stay away from such topics myself but when I feel strongly about something, I'm not afraid to write what is on my mind.

LoudMan wrote on December 5, 2014, 7:01 PM

That's an excellent reason to be controversial.

Possibly people are worried they'll be deleted from the site if they say something too far off centre?
