The Lonely Man
Are you alone and lonely?
I know someone who lived his entire life with lonesome and loneliness. Never felt the sense of belonging. A man with a strange skin disease who is avoided by everybody. He comes to a family where he thinks he belongs and would accept him despite his physical appearance. Volunteers to work for them in exchange of acceptance. The family was actually the family of his brother. They only recognize them for his deeds, for his services. And push him away when they don't feel like having him. Like when they have special occasions, they let him stay in his house or stay in another house for him not to be seen by the visitors.
The man comes to another family and they give him food. He helps them and learned to love the children of the family. His goodness is recognized by them and the family cared for the man. In his years of existence, I never knew if he ever felt that someone ever cared for him but hope he knows that my family does. I never saw the happiness in his face. I see melancholy in his eyes. The loneliness of being alone. The face of a struggling man. That lonely man died yesterday and he was my uncle (my mom's cousin). Thank you for being part of our family.
