What About Some Poetry?

Do you write poetry? Are you a poet in your soul and you are at the same time able to express this gentle part of yours on the paper?

Where do you publish your work then? On the real paper in books and in magazines? Do you publish your poems on some dedicated web site? Or maybe here at Persona Paper?

I can say for myself that I did write some poems years ago. It is a fond remembrance and I would like to revive those days. I can start with publishing my old work here.

Since English is not my first language I didn't write many poems in English. My estimate is around thirty.

Another thing is the length. They are rarely longer than 500 characters. But I can make up for missing letters with some bells and whistles around the poem itself. I am sure that you won't mind.

So, are you ready for some poetry? Yes! Good, very good.

It depends upon the poetry. Most of what I've written that's not too private to share is on HubPages. It's not great. I am super critical when it comes to poetry, since I'm an old English teacher. My perception of poetry is often different than that of most people who consider themselves poets. I tend toward blank verse myself, rhymed verse, and, occasionally, a genuine poem.

Thank you very much for the reply.

So you can be our mentor? emoticon
Please don't be to harsh with my poems. Some of them are quite childish but they were written long time ago when i was in high school. And I won't be correcting any grammatical errors in them. I want them to be as they were written. They are a snapshot of a moment in time and mind.

I can write poetry because I am a literature professor. I am teaching Philippine and World Literature. I also some published materials about poetry and even essays. Although, I am not that perfect poet, but I can write, it depends upon my mood.

I've taken many stabs at song lyrics, which, I suppose could actually be considered poetry. The only poem I've ever written is actually a lengthy, bitter Christmas rant of an ode to my alcoholic ex-wife. Hmm, maybe I'll share it here some day. Good luck with your poetry.

I love reading peoples thoughts but hate it when the 'experts'have to 'box' it up into categories .

maxeen wrote on November 23, 2014, 8:22 AM

I do think it is pretty bad and sad that there is not a place here under the name of poetry.

:) Don't worry. Barb is an expert with a soul. She will appreciate our best efforts. Am I right, ?

Congratulations! So you are a professional, great! Will you write some poems for us? Thanks in advance.

Please do share it if you feel like it.

And yes, many song lyrics are poetry. The first band that pops up in my mind in this department are The Walkabouts.

Are you talking about categories?

Maybe can help and find some place for poetry in the upcoming upgrade?

maxeen wrote on November 23, 2014, 12:17 PM

Yes! In categories, that would make a lot of writers happy.

I like to read and (try to write) true romantic poetry. I am a romantic at heart.

As I said, I would be very critical of my own poetry. I'm not so concerned about rhyme, unless it's not good, or about forms. I guess I can't link to it, but I did write a hub on my WannaB Writer account on HubPages:" Is it Poetry or Merely Verse?" Just writing about you feelings and making it look like poetry in form doesn't make it poetry. It's the way you use words that make it poetry -- the imagery, the rhythm, the sounds.

I have had a few poems published in publications, online and off, but I'm not the best poet in the world.

I do have some but one needs to be in the right frame of mind for composing poems. Some titles are: Retirement Bliss not blues, Love yourself, The gullible mile, Meet my pets, School Days, Drop the attitude................

Why not post some poetry? I remember reading some of your poetry on Bubblews. Even if English is not your first language, your poetry expressed your feelings well and some of your imagery was very good. I would like to read some.
