Gobble, Gobble! What's on Your Thanksgiving Menu?

Aw, Thanksgiving! A time to get together with family, a time to give thanks, and of course, a time to pig out! Are you cooking the holiday meal this year? I am. Right now I don't have a full menu picked out just yet but my daughter and I were talking about what to make since it is coming up so quickly.

I like to make things a simple as possible while my daughter loves to try new things. I am more of a traditional person, making food items that I just have to have every single year. That is what my mom always used to do. For me, I need sweet potatoes with marshmallows, mashed potatoes and gravy, and pumpkin pie. Those three items are a necessity for me. Well, of course the turkey fits right in as well.

We decided that this year we would skip the green bean casserole. There is always some left over and it never gets eaten. Plus it isn't anyone's favorite. My daughter is trying out homemade stuffing. I always buy the Pepperidge Farms bread crumb mix and add in my own stuff.

So, that is pretty much all I have right now. I need to come up with another couple of things and call it a meal.

What is on your Thanksgiving menu? Maybe I can steal someone's else idea for something a little different.

Good luck, Cherokee, with your Thanksgiving plans. We'll be keeping it simple this year, bringing the basics with us on a trip away for the holiday, and scouting out a place or two for a nice dinner that won't cost us a wing and a drumstick. Recently, in lieu of "traditional" stuffing my wife has been making her own stuffing using her homemade whole wheat bread and just some chicken stock, celery, carrots, onions and some basic spices like salt, pepper and poultry seasoning. Yummmm!!!

We have no usual tradition as such in our country but we do it in our family.
You have delicious treats for the family.

I follow a recipe on the stuffing that I watched my grandmother cook for years. It has apples and some gizzard cut up finely in it. I never like the latter but it is good. Have to have stuffing and mashed potatoes, olives, sweet relish, and all those traditional things I've had for so many years. We even tried ham one year just to be different and, though it was good, I still wanted the turkey. And I always look forward to leftovers the next day. For dessert we have pumpkin pie and banana pudding.
