It's Party Time..and you are all invited :)

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that my daughter is preparing for her spelling bee contest.

Well, the final contest was on 18th October and my daughter got second position in National Level. This means that she is officially the second best speller in Pakistan. She had worked very very hard and it paid off, Alhamdulillah.
The words were so difficult that it made my head spin. There were terms like
Gluconeogenesis
fissiparous
Xerophthalmia
hasenpfeffer
My daughter got two mistakes in first round but she answered most words correct in Rapid Fire so got tied in first place with a boy from another school. In Sudden Death Round, she made one mistake and the other boy won but I think even the third placed child is a star because the words were really tough.
I was most concerned about words of foreign origin but surprisingly they turned to be be the easy ones. her age group was assigned Japanese and they were asked words like kamikaze, shogun, teriyaki, shiatsu, satsuma etc. and almost everyone got them right.
Anyway we are all happy and tired and I don't want to hear the words "Spelling Bee" or dictionary for the next 6 months at least :)
We will be giving a party to all her classmates and friends and anyone reading this is also welcome to drop by.

Congrats are on the way to that brilliant brain. And part of it goes to you in the manner you have prepared her. I have already got the taste of it in your post about hidden cities

What a well-deserved outcome for a young lady -- and her mother -- who put much time and energy into preparing. I'm afraid I won't be able to make the party, but appreciate the invitation. : )

My motto is never remember anything that can be looked up. I only recognize one of those words on that list and certainly could not spell any correctly.

Thank you soooooooooooo much everyone. I am truly grateful for such kind words and wishes. We are still deciding where to party as she wants to invite half the school and we don't want to go bankrupt:-)

Wow, she must be really smart. When I was young, spelling was my weak point.
