Full Dumpster, Great Feeling

So, of all things we wait until winter to move rooms around in my house. I have combined my office and craft area and moved my bedroom to the old craft room. It’s great because it is a lot closer to the bathroom and those night time tips are rough on the old bones!
Anyway, my granddaughter is getting my old room (she’s young, she can make the trek to the bathroom!) so we have been busy for days. I also decided that it was time to purge a lot of stuff that has just been sitting around for ages…you know, this and that type stuff that I always “thought” I would get around to doing something with.
I crochet a lot and I sew. I kept anything pertaining to that, but other craft stuff that I always intended to try either got given away, or thrown away. You’d be surprised what you can unearth in the nooks and crannies of a really big house!
Digging around has even saved some money. Now that my son and 3 grandchildren are living here we thought we needed to go buy more winter blankets. I found a great big pile of them in the back of a closet that I had forgotten about. Just a good washing and we now have more blankets than we need.
The bedroom I am now occupying is fresh, clean and completely clutter free. I am determined to make sure it stays that way. As soon as I get my granddaughters room done, I intend to start on another room, and then another and so on throughout the winter. The dumpster staying full is a great feeling!
No, that is not my dumpster! It was too cold out to go take a picture of it.

I always found throwing junk out to be very therapeutic..

Excellent job! I'll be you feel so much better, and you've made your surroundings more comfortable to boot. Good for you.

I DO feel so much better! I was always one of those, "But I might need that someday" type people and tried to think of a use for everything. Well, I just don't have that much time, lol.

Yes it is. My life has kind of been in limbo since losing my husband to cancer 5 years ago. I guess I just didn't want to change anything. This feels like a new start and I am sure he would be proud of me!

I'm guilty of the same timing. I thought I would have time to get in at least one good yard sale before the weather turned. I had one small one, skipped a week, then the next three weeks all had beautiful warm, nearly summer mid-weeks and turned winter on the weekends. Now I have to find a way to reorganize all the stuff I want to sell until I can try again in the spring.

Yeah I planned to have a yard sale but spring and summer got away from me, lol. I have packed some things into boxes and stored them in a small shed. Hopefully I will get to a sale next spring!

You know he would be, even if you weren't doing this.

That's the thing abut clutter--if you let it accumulate, you don't even know what you have, and you end up buying needless extra stuff. I know you feel good, now--that's a big job!

You betcha! I was actually out blanket shopping (well looking) a while back and nearly choked at how expensive they were! Finding a closet full saved me a bundle and I had been wondering where they all went, lol.

I've been working on this for months around here. Unfortunately we don't have a dumpster so its been being done a little at a time since we just have two large trash cans and of course I can't use them all up in the process, lol. I have found a lot of stuff I completely forgot about as well when I was doing the back porch and turning the unused bedroom into a pantry.

I envy your motivation and enthusiasm, but you sound so content, I can't really be jealous.

My dumpster only gets emptied every two weeks so now I am having to wait for it to be emptied. It is driving me crazy because I want to keep going now that I have started, lol. I found stuff I had bought for LAST Christmas and totally forgot about among other things. It was like a treasure hunt, lol

I wish I could say it is enthusiasm, lol. I get in these spurts where I do want to just clean and organize...then there are other times I just look around and say "No way!" It finally gets to me and I have no choice, lol.

A good cleaning out is great for the soul! I should do it more often. I also love to crochet and have been "hooking" up a storm for Christmas gifts.
