Books: My Favorite Subject!

Now I have a subject that I am used to! Books...what is not to love about them? And I don't mean the Kindle version but the one with the cover and paper pages. Remember those? I need to have an actual book in my hand when I read because the other makes me feel like I am on the computer and I spend a lot of time on the computer as it is. Right now I have two book shelves full of unread books. I think I need to start reading faster!

Authors

I have a tendency to read a good murder mystery but I also like autobiographies, Christian Fiction, animal stories, and few others that just happen to catch my attention. The authors that I always look for are James Patterson, Harlan Coben, Patricia Cornwell, Karen Kingsbury, Robin Cook, Mary Higgins Clark, Lee Child, Beverly Lewis, and Tracie Peterson just to name a few. Those are the authors that I always look for their next book. I really love series of books. I really likes the Wagons West series by Dana Fuller Ross. I started collecting them again and will start them again soon.

What I Don't Like

I really don't like the 'Harlequin' romance type of books or anything too racy and explicit. I like to leave things to the imagination. I don't need things spelled out for me...literally. What I look for in a good book is for it to capture my attention at least within the first three chapters. I am also one that can only read one book and I have to finish it, no matter whether it is boring or not. Of course, I do just skim through those that are not worthy of my complete attention.

Discovering New Authors and Genres of Books

Harlan Coben and Lee Child were two authors that I just recently discovered. It is fun to try out different reads that you may not have before. I am also getting more interested in reading more about history. That is definitely new for me because I was never much of a history buff. Must just be my age.

I am sad that many great book stores have closed down now. My only way of purchasing them is online unless I travel out of town.

What are your favorite authors?

I read just about everything except horror. I tend to get nightmares :)

I, too, still prefer a book to read rather than reading on an electronic device. Mysteries, crime fiction, suspense are my go-to books, but I also read other genres. I'm with you -- Harlequin romances have never been my cup of tea.

Like you, I prefer to read a 'real' book. There is something about the feel of a book and the action of turning the page which cannot be replicated on any kind of electronic device. I read a lot of science fiction and factual books - we should never stop learning new facts!

I have a lot of real books to get through right now, since I was dumb enough to buy even more at a recent library sale I happened upon. At first I was reading one a day, but I have too much to do before surgery to read much more before the big day. As far a Christian authors go, although I like Beverly Lewis, Tracie Peterson, and Janet Oke, they are still a bit too formula driven to make my list of favorites. My very favorite Christian fiction writer is Jan Karon. Her books make me laugh and cry and show how ordinary Christian folks live their lives with both the good and the bad. The books in the Mitford series show real people I'd love to have over for dinner, and I was very sorry to see the series end. I still had unanswered questions. I wanted to follow the next generation.

I'm an avid book reader myself, but I tend to lean towards the YA and dystopian stuff. Simple romance or mystery and thriller seem to bore me.
