Coconut Oil is not just for People

I was just reading a post written by Cherokee talking about discovering the many uses of coconut oil. Cherokee listed many great uses of coconut oil for people, but did you know it is great to have on hand for your dogs too?

I have a big old jar of extra virgin coconut oil in my pantry for cooking and “people” use but I also scoop out some and put it in another container and keep it with my pet supplies for my dogs to use. It is a great skin conditioner for them too, especially in the dry winter months.

It’s also great for their digestion and can be used to treat skin irritations, yeast infections and flea bites. It also helps keep them “flea-free” if used regularly. The best part is it is all natural so if you rub it on and they lick it, it is okay.

I put a bit of coconut oil in their food and I also rub it into their skin as a moisturizer. The basic rule of thumb is 1 tsp per ten pounds, but I would start out with a smaller amount and then increase it to the teaspoon, because it can give the dog diarrhea.

You can search on the internet for a ton more things it is good for, for both you and your dog. I am a firm believer in treating conditions as naturally as possible for both my family and my dogs. Coconut oil has become a magic elixir at my house!

I have been taking coconut oil tablets on the advice of a guy I met at a funeral of all places. I am finding I am a lot less tired since I started taking them and I am finally starting to lose weight, although to be fair I have been going to the gym as well so it could have more to do with that but the gym never worked for me before.

I didn't even know they made coconut oil tablets. I will have to check into that too. I love the oil because it really makes my skin smooth and soft!

I've read of a lot of benefits of coconut oil. I need to pick some up.

I've been hearing great things about it and would like to try cooking with it, but it's pretty expensive :(

I get mine from ebay, apparently its actually better to swallow the actual oil but I have texture issues that would never allow me to do that. They are kind of like those fish oil tablets in the sense that they are actually capsules filled with oil rather than some powder or other. They are huge though, that's the only downside but they are definitely making a difference to my energy levels!

Coconut oil is one of those things I have yet to try for much more than some cooking.

I get a pretty big jar at Sam's Club for about 8 bucks and it doesn't take much of it for whatever you need to use it for.

these are great tips. i will try to put some on my dogs flea bites cause they tend to get irritated and infected. i wonder if its effective in stopping my dogs fur from shedding?

My neighbors dog had bad flea allergies and the vet tried everything. Poor guys back was nearly bald. I told her about coconut oil and she started using it daily on his back. Dog's hair is growing back well and vet was amazed!

Oh, that's not bad--I will have to look for it next time I'm there. Thanks!
