The Two Guinea Fowl

About 2 months ago, I purchased two guinea fowl for our garden. We already own chickens and decided to diversify. The guinea fowl are a male and female pair. The weather is already cold so there is no egg laying at the moment, but 2 eggs were laid when we first got them.

Caring for guinea fowl is not hard. They need to be fed and given water daily. The feed is made of corn flour. They roam around the garden, eating any green plants they find as well as small insects.

What is interesting about them is that they are like guard dogs, in the sense that they protect their territory with a loud shrieking cry when they sense danger or strangers nearby. They tend to make lots of noise if bothered, but other than that they are peaceful animals. The chickens have made it hard for them to adapt because they attack them. They are getting used to their new home and even sunbathe when the sun comes out!

I have witnessed the guard-dog like behavior and alerting the whole neighborhood about any danger.

They're smart birds. Definitely good "guard-dogs"

Sounds like these are wonderful additions to you menagerie. They will probably start supplying you with eggs soon.

If they can protect your house, that will be even better.
