Category Challenge: Art

After writing about and in my A-W Category Challenge, the next word on the list is Art. In my post about Art, I will not write about Van Gogh or Da Vinci or Monet but would rather like to talk about the Art of , or to be more specific Islamic calligraphy which is absolutely amazing.

Calligraphy comes from two Greek words, “kallos” which means "beauty" and “graphẽ” which means "writing" so calligraphy means beautiful writing. Calligraphy is generally done with a pen called “qalam” which has a special tip.

Since the advent of , calligraphy has been used to write the verses of Quran in beautiful handwriting by expert and dedicated calligraphers. Many Muslims prefer to decorate interiors of their homes and offices with calligraphy rather than statues or modern paintings.

Calligraphy can also be seen on tiles inside mosques and Islamic centres. In , Sadequain is recognized as one of the most prolific artists who took the art of calligraphy to a whole new level.

this is also similar to Chinese and Japanese writing system which i also consider an art. it takes a masters hand to write these characters that are also often used to adorn many Chinese and Japanese homes

very interesting topic to write about for art. I have not been here much this weekend so I don't know about this challenge. I might try to catch up later today but for now I must go to work.

Calligraphy is an art form I learned long ago, but my skills are minimal. I do love it.

I dabbled in calligraphy in my younger years when my hand was more steady. I enjoyed it at the time and it helped me to better appreciate those who had mastered the art.

Calligrahy is such a beautiful writing. I used to have a set of the pens here that belonged to my mother. I will have to see if I can find them again.

I learned to do chancery italic calligraphy (the typical style) in school, and I enjoyed it a lot. I guess the ban on illustrating human figures in Islam is why a lot of attention is given to calligraphy and pattern work.
