Laughing Gets Teen Shot in Gary, Indiana
What would you do if your neighbor’s home was burglarized? In Gary, Indiana, one teenager’s response was to laugh at the upset and aggravated homeowner, who was desperate to know if anyone in his neighborhood saw his home burglarized. That act of blatant disrespect got the teen shot several times.
Needless to say, the laughing, uncaring, disrespectful teen died at the scene. To make matters even more interesting, not one person in the poverty stricken, African American neighborhood saw a thing. They didn’t see the burglary, and they didn’t see the kid get shot or know what the man yelled. This lack of communication will likely result in the murderer going free and the burglars never getting caught.
Unfortunately, in these poverty stricken neighborhoods, the rule of thumb is “Don’t talk to cops, don’t be a snitch.” The cops can’t be trusted. The other part of the equation is that everyone knows everyone in those neighborhoods, and someone knows who did it. If an individual snitches, they could then become a target for beating, robbing and killing, and no one wants to be killed no matter how poor they are.
