It's a little lonely being a night owl

I'm a night owl. A major night owl. It is now 4 a.m. EST and I am raring to go. I know I have to sleep at some point but my energy is high now.

I will go to bed around 5 a.m., wake up about 11 a.m. and hate every minute of the day. I barely do anything unless I HAVE to and I drag around miserable and weary. Then night time comes and I up and at 'em!

But no one else is with me. Sure, there are people from other countries who are up as it is their next day. I have a friend from England who is five hours ahead of me and we often catch each other before I go to bed and when he wakes up.

But no one is writing, no one is chatting, no one is around because they are sleeping like normal human beings! I have tried over and over to change my sleeping schedule and failed. Even when I went to bed early, I just laid there completely awake thinking of all the cool things I was going to do when I woke up. Then I fell asleep and woke up not wanting to even THINK about those cool things I was sure I would do in the morning.

Oh well. Loneliness has its advantages. I have no one to distract me as I work and I can listen to my music (with headphones on of course) and just do what I do without the phone ringing, people knocking on the door, or even traffic outside. My tattoo pictured above (which has since been touched up and changed some) that I got two years ago is a testament to how much I love being a night owl. It says Tranquil Night under it. I wanted it to say "Night owl on the prowl" but that would have taken up my whole arm! It was a totally unplanned tattoo,my first one ever. But I love it and have four more and one more to go. All say different things about me.

Ha! I am not alone after all.

My little Yorkie Molly just came running down the stairs barking like crazy. I'll turn her into a night owl soon enough!

Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Not quite my thing sleeping during the day. But to each other own.

I am a night owl and love to work in the evening; I prefer the stillness around me that is normally not possible with working in the day.

Night owls probably tend to be internet junkies. You can always find people to hang out with on the other side of the world!

I like being up early. I am dragging by 10 pm. But then I have insomnia sometimes, so I am awake at night quite often.

PattyTherre I used to be a night owl. Back in the day. I was known by my friends as the day sleeper. I would wake up somewhere around 2 in the afternoon and be up all night. But, then I got married, mistake, and I started living the normal life. And ever since then I sleep like a regular person. I do have my days though. I still sometimes fall back into my old sleeping habits. And it feels good to a point. If I am ever up late I will look you up here or on the other site. Then you will have someone to interact with.

My husband wakes up at 4:30 a.m. for work so we kiss each other goodbye and I continue on until I get tired enough to sleep. I am always up when he wakes up! Crazy! He gets up at 6 a.m. on his days off. UGH!

It's around 10 p.m. that I start to feel some energy and by midnight, I really feel good. But no one else does so I am stuck with a lot of energy alone. lol

I was a night owl long before true internet even existed. I read, watched TV wrote a lot on my electronic typewriter and later on my big no hard drive 5" floppy disks computer. It's going to be hard to change my ways now.

Me too. I just concentrate better. It can be crazy during the day. The phone is constantly ringing and all kinds of things are happening. At night, I can think and do what I want quietly.

I went to bed at 5:30 a.m. and was up today at 10 a.m. I just don't sleep a lot. My sister can sleep all day until 5 or 6 at night.I could never do that.I am always aware that it is daytime and I *should* be awake.

I am both, I often wake up early, because I need less sleep now I am older and it's easier to get up and be on the computer than to lie in bed not sleeping. But I also like to work during the evening, when no one is around to interrrupt.

I am the same way. I end up not getting much sleep but I don't feel any different than when I get a lot of sleep so I just let my body dictate when to sleep.

i am also a night owl! i usually go to sleep at 2:30am or even 3:00am and wake up at 6 in the morning. my eyes just automatically opens when the sun is up no matter how late i go to bed and yet i dont feel any head ache or light headedness when i get up from bed. it just feels like i've had a normal 8 hours of sleep like do most people.

PattyTherre I used to be up all night. I miss those days. But these days I am up at the crack of dawn myself. It's like you are both two ships that pass in the early morning hours. Nice!!!

I am going to to try to change my schedule. Everyone says I need to. I will NEVER be an early bird but maybe 1 a.m. or so would be a good compromise. (She said at 1:40 a.m. lol)

PattyTherre wrote on October 28, 2014, 1:36 AM

I feel that way too. Or did. l\Lately I am tired a lot but that is because I have been sick for what seems like ages and have some other health issues. I don't go to bed earlier or wake up later though. I get energy at night.

PattyTherre wrote on October 28, 2014, 1:38 AM

I was always a late night person as well. I could not sleep as a kid at night and would get nervous knowing I had to be up for school early. I always hated HAVING to be up super early because I loved staying awake super late. lol

inertia4 wrote on October 28, 2014, 2:04 PM

PattyTherre LOL. Nice!!! Well try and change it a bit maybe. I get it though. I was once like that.

Good to see you here Patty. I know you from Tsu. And I just found out about PersonaPaper tonight from a post on Tsu. It didn't take me long to decide to give it a try.

As for your question in this article, I'm definitely not an early bird. And that is all because I'm a night owl like you. It's usually my writing that keeps me up. For some reason I tend to become more creative at night and the writing just starts to come out of me.

Hey, I bet you never thought that your unplanned owl tattoo will one day represent your night-owlness.
