Stop Doing This On Facebook: Tagging Everyone in Everything

Ok, so this one might actually get you in trouble with Facebook if someone reports you so this is more than just a personal peeve. The Facebook tagging feature can be abused.

Let me repeat that. The Facebook tagging feature CAN be abused.

You are only supposed to tag people in images they are in themselves, per Facebook’s rules. As a general courtesy, most people don’t mind if you occasionally tag them in something that you think they will find interesting.

This does not mean you should tag everyone you know in everything you post, tag people in pictures that have nothing to do with them or tag 50+ people every time you make a status update. Your statuses are there on your Timeline for the people who want to stop by and see how you are doing. You don’t have to tag everyone every time.

Chillax with the tagging!

This bad habit is why I've got my security settings so I have to approve all tags. Sometimes the picture has nothing to do with me AND it's quite inappropriate.

It's probably another way of spreading more rubbish far and wide. I sometimes think those people are getting paid to do it!

For this, I want to give you TWO cookies. Of course, I admit to tagging RuPaul in a lot of my friends' stuff.

The thing that REALLY irks me on Facebook is the fake accounts that are set up to promote the myriad of Chinese clone websites selling fake Raybans etc.
Seems just about every day at least one of my contacts is tagged with one of their fake photos, it's getting very annoying.

For each one, EVERYONE needs to report the account with the image as a Fake Account. Do this by clicking on the dots to the right of "Message" on the top right of the member profile banner.

I also then visit the web site, and flag it on WOT (Web Of Trust) as a spam site. That helps to stop people visiting, for those that use the browser plugin at least.

Seems that sometimes Facebook respond fast to these reports of fake accounts, but not always.

I only Tag people that are in the pictures and that I know.

I rarely tag anyone unless they are in a photo or are part of a subject I've written about. When I posted a photo from my nephew's wedding, tagged the people in it, and also some family members who were not in it but I knew would want to see them.

And THAT is perfectly acceptable use of the Facebook tag feature. Some people still need to learn this. hehe
