The amazing powers of baking soda

I am a big fan of using baking soda for cleaning and disinfecting purposes in my home. It is a cheap and effective way of getting rid of bad smells from most things.

I sprinkle baking-soda in to kill odor.

I put baking soda in a small dish and put it in my so that it absorbs all food smells. I change the dish once a month.

I sprinkle some baking soda in shoes closets and areas so that they do not smell musty.

I also use baking soda to clean my .

Baking soda can also be used to clean and store plastic bottles, thermos and water coolers that are not in use.

I sometimes pour baking soda and mixture in my kitchen sink because it helps to keep drains open and keep pipes clean. Baking soda can also be sprinkled in trash cans to kill odors.

I have heard it can used to clean teeth and exfoliate skin too but I think that this will be too abrasive.

Do you use baking soda in our household?

My wife uses it when she is baking! Apart from that we don't use it for anything else although the tip you give about shoes is worth thinking about for my working boots!

No but I just might get some the next time I go to the store.

My children play a lot of sports and it is not always practical to wash shoes after every game so I sprinkle baking soda in shoes and put them in sunlight. Before wearing, just put shoes upside down and shake well to get rid of residue.

Just wait until you've eaten it as a candy.

Seriously. It's oddly really good and has uniquely anti-cancer properties from how it cleans out those cancer cells too far gone.

I like the idea of placing baking soda in the fridge to absorb smell. I may try it. Thanks for the tip.

Most welcome. Just remember it is baking soda and not baking powder:-)

I had not heard about this before. Can you tell me how much or how it is supposed to be consumed. I have a friend battling breast cancer.

I know. I use it in my date and walnut cake to soften the dates overnight.

I love baking soda and use it for deodorizing stuff and also for cleaning. Whenever I scoop the kitty litter, I sprinkle a layer on top of the "scoopage" in the bin, and it controls the odor. I also periodically sprinkle some baking soda into the kitchen sink drain and follow with a vinegar rinse. The resulting fizz helps clean the drain and cut down on odors. A lot of toothpaste has baking soda in, but I dislike the taste. You can even wash your hair with baking soda!

I have not used baking soda for teeth, skin and hair because I am afraid it will be too abrasive but love using it around the house.

I'll pass on what I've learned. A search for "baking soda" and "cancer" (without the quote marks) might prove helpful. I hope your friend finds success, no matter what option they pursue.

Baking soda and vinegar? Keeps drains clean. I did not know that!
